I'm travelling to Morzine from Weds 24th to Sun 28th Jan 2018. Will be on my own for first two days and am looking for a friendly bar that serves nice food, somewhere there's a good chance of getting chatting with a few folks. I'm a 45 year old female boarder who's also just learning to ski. I don't want to sit on my own in a restaurant with a book!

Welcome to SnowHeads.
A good way to meet people is to eat at The Farmhouse - you sit on long tables with people you do not know and all eat at the same time.
The food is pretty good too - it's 50 quid, but good value as you get 4 courses plus wine and coffee.

Try a drink in Beanies or a coffee in the Satellite - these are 2 of the ex-pat hang outs and most ex pats are pretty friendly.
The Aubergarde and the Après Ski Bar (Ardent) have live music sometimes during après.
The Bec Jaune is IMHO the second best Micro Brewery in the French side of PdS, and does nice food too.
Some of the seassonaire hangouts can be a bit louder / younger / cliquey, but worth ducking your head in to see if it floats your boat.

Well done you! I spend half my life travelling on business and am always sitting there in the corner of a restaurant reading a book like Norman No-Mates.

@Mjit, The Bec Jaune is nice, and does good craft beers - don't get me wrong.
I just happen prefer Le Fer Rouge in La Chapelle d'Abondance.
It feels more convivial and friendly, and I really liked really the stout.

Also Café Chaud and Bar Robinson are worthwhile visits in the evening

I've never had a scotch egg, hot or otherwise - in my mind it's akin to an Irish spiceburger, but with egg. Might give it a go!

Was just looking for some hidden gem. As I'll be staying in Morzine I think that one will have to stay hidden - or a very expensive cab ride home!

Best bet would be to ski across to La Panthiaz, get there in time for Happy Hour.
Enjoy the hospitality, stay in a local gite - 30 quid each including breakfast in the Escalade.
Then ski back the next day.
If you drink enough in Happy Hour ( buy 6 pints, get 12 ) you can amortise the 30 quid for B&B

Coup de Coeur might suit also. A wine bar with good food. Staff have been known to be friendly, sometimes.

Opposite the coup de couer is a restaurant ( the alpage?) Owned by the same people, whilst not the best for meeting people, it is a must if you like cheese. The entire basement is a cheese room with multiple cheeses, fruits, breads, oh and a waterfall fountain!

Never been to the Bec Jaune but I'm a big fan of Le Fer Rouge. I'll be back there sampling their offerings in March.
