Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi!

I’m planning to go from London to Val Thorens with UCPA. I’m 32.

Has anybody used that company before?

If somebody wants to join me let me know 😊.

Hi, welcome to SH!

My last 2 trips were with UCPA ( Flaine), love it! Nor Mrs EWWs cup of tea so not this year but a great way to get an "all in" package.

If you do go, have great time =0)

I had a week in Val T UCPA. I got my own flights and transfers as I was adding the eosb the week after.
Great week. Amazing value. I asked for better more all mountain skis as I kept catching an edge in original ones.
Food is a but like school dinners but it's tasty and plenty off it.
If you book with action outdoors you will be in a room with English speakers.
Bar is pretty good value. They do some entertainment in evenings. There's a disco up stairs.
It's pretty low down in the resort. Easy to ski in and out but a bit of a trek if you want to go out in the evening.

I think they have twin rooms but not sure about solo in a twin. If you can there's probably a hefty single supplement. Look in Action Outdoors the UK booking site. Or give them a phone. I had to phone about my booking and they were really good

UCPA is mostly French and Swedish skiers in my experience. All the Swedes are experts obviously. I went on an intro to offpiste course in Val D’Isere last year and had a great time, in a totally French group. Quite comical with the guide talking for 5 minutes in French and a final “watch the rocks” or some other short instruction to me before setting off. Meeting some of the same people and doing the same course again this year on 3rd Feb. It’s a cheap and cheerful, all inclusive, dormitory style affair.

+1 for VT UCPA. Ski in / ski out to the door
And it’s a smart and modern centre. The rooms all sleep four I believe and are well designed, if you opt for a top bunk - they are more private. I’m not the biggest fan of sharing but have always found it a good experience.

It is a hike up to the village, but the location works well for stopping off for apres in the village and skiing home, and as a result the bar in be ucpa tends to be a busy and social place on a night.

We had a great time there a year or so ago. It’s a lottery I think in terms of what the mix of nationalities is each week, French and a Swedish contingent normally always present, but we’ve found more and more British travellers are using the UCPA, if they can they try to buy English speakers together in groups but it depends on what course you choose etc... the default language is French. But I quite enjoy the challenge Very Happy

Was there last week! Modern center compared to the others UCPA Centres I have been, slightly less Brits there than say Val D’Isere, which means I was in a mixed group for tuition. Was a truck to the town though which was probably a good thing as it put me off going and staying out until the early hours like I have before ! Embarassed

Just returned from UCPA VT and had an absolutely cracking week. Everyone very willing to socialise and I found it very inclusive. Met some great people luckily, who I then skied with for the week pretty much.

As already mentioned, the hike to the village feels like Mt Everest on skates, but worth it when you get there.

I was in a room with two others, one English, one not and then they left halfway through week, so had the room to myself! Rooms were very comfy, showers excellent. Ensuite shower and shared toilet with the next door room (we had a little foyer area per two rooms). I think some rooms were slightly different.

Instruction was to a good standard, they made an effort to ensure everyone was a similar standard in each group. My instructor was French, but spoke good English. Guess it's a lottery.

Very French and Swedish heavy, but that is to be expected when it is a French company I suppose.

There was entertainment every night, to varying degrees of hilarity.

I would definitely do it again. Just nerve-wracking because I will now be comparing any future holiday with this one, which was gold!
