Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

88.5 side edge guide

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

I'm looking to buy some side edge guides for diamond files for my skis, I have a pair of line skis which according to the piste office have a 1.5 side edge angle. However looking around i can't find a guide for this angle anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one?

The skis have been serviced quite a few times by a ski shop where I used to live is there a chance they changed the edge angle?

Thanks for your help

@ozbozz123, ....almost certainly.

I am afraid many shops just whack them through on 89 without any questions or thought...

You can do the 'felt pen' test - put felt tip along the whole edge and then see what happens when you do a light pass with an 89 guide. If it takes off the felt pen completely evenly, then it's 89.

Calling PISTE OFFICE ....come in PISTE OFFICE....hello hello?

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There's only one brand on my list with a 1.5 or 88.5 sode edge angle and that's Ski Logic. If that's what you have then just go with 88. As valais2 says, I'd check the existing angle if they've already been serviced.

There's an old google link to my edge spec page floating around the net that has Line skis listed as 1.5 but that dates back to when they were independent & they now all come 1,1 from the K2/Line/Volkl Chinese factory.

Noone has side edge guides set to less then 1 degree, which means there's no edge guide set to 1.5. You can find guide for 1 or 2 degrees but no for 1.5. Probably 1.5 degree is in reality base angle, but either way, for side edge, just get guide you want, either it's its 2 or 3 (or more or less) and just file away. It's like 2 minute work and your skis are done with new edge that "fits" your guide. And no worries, you will never see difference between 2 or 3 degrees on side.

That's not technically correct but I wouldn't bother buying an edge guide for 88.5, just do what spyderjon says - he knows his stuff.

@spyderjon, why do (/did) Line and ski logik set them at a half angle?

@ozbozz123, Don't know how long your diamond files are, but I use a Kunzmann Multi Tuner with its supplied steel file. 0 - 5 degrees in 0.5 degree steps. I use 0.5 on the base and 2/88 on the side.

Or this for longer files:
