Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ischgl -2018 Help needed

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All

I am planning a trip to Ischgl from 1st April 2018 to the 08/4/2018. Can anyone help me in finding:-
Accomodation
Best ways to get to Ischgl from either Innsbruck or Zurich

Compared to Geneva the transfers seem ridiculously expensive!

Am I better driving from the UK???

2-4 people.
Flights are working out at £389 pp to Innsbruck and £190 to Zurich.

Transfers - Cant find best way so far

Acomodation - All over £300 pp for the week at the moment

I am use to building my own trips to Chamonix and Avoriaz paying £500-£800 per person for 5/7days

Sadly ischgl is a pain to get to unless you're 6 people and can fill a transfer.

Obviously it's far cheaper from Innsbruck, but not if your flights are £200 more!!

The reality is that you've not much wriggle room on this. Maybe hire a car.

Accommodation in Austria is all about the Tourist Office website, sending them an email or using google maps to get email addresses of hotels.

@Badbobby, We found accommodation on booking.com. 1 week apartment for 4 1400 euro. Private transfer from Innsbruck was £250. Looking at the price difference on flights I might be tempted to hire car at Zurich. Alternatively take train to St. Anton and stay there Happy

Not sure but if Ischgl is definite, can you train from Zurich to Landeck and then take a taxi or bus?

Ischgl is more expensive that most resorts in Austria but well worth it. Would recommend looking at cheap flights to Friedrichshafen or Memmingen and then hiring a car. Munich is another option but Saturday traffic can be difficult.
Ischgl.com tourist office website is by far your best bet for finding accommodation and if you want to save money and don't mind a 5-6 minute free bus ride to the gondola station each morning then Mathon is a very good option.

Definitely try the Ischgl.com tourist office

We stayed here http://www.gidishof.com/en1/gidishof-in-ischgl/

It was one of the cheapest B&B and right next to Silvrettaseilbahn lift

Cheapest way.

Train Innsbruck to Landeck Zams.

Change to direct Bus to Ischgl

Cost around €16.50 takes just under 2 hours.

If you have an Austrian VorteilCard (Discount card) Price is 50% less around €8.00

Train Bus combination from Zurich will be dearer.

@halfhand, @liam6913, we're going to Ischgl in January (well, Kappl): one of our party is returning a day early, and is getting taxi down to, and train from Landeck to Zurich. Seems as if it was quite easy to organize. (PS we chose Zurich cos our flights were £122 Smile And alos from LHR rather than GTW, so additonal transfer time at that end, less time at this end).

Or fly to Munich and drive down, Munich flights tens to be cheaper (from Edinburgh anyway).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Used to fly to Zurich or Salzburg but go via Munich now. You can get a train from any of them and time and cost are similar. Innsbruck is a lot closer but you pay for the convenience.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Innsbruck is the simplest way, then bus, taxi, car hire, but, I've flown to Friedricshafen, and Memmingham before then hired a car..

In that case I'd go to Zurich, catch the train to Landeck and get a bus or taxi from there. As above Munich is also worth checking though.

But yeah, Ischgl is tucked away up a long side valley and is one of the more expensive resorts in Austria. If budget is an issue there are other places that would work better.

I've done the Zurich+hire car option to Ischgl in the past. Not the shortest drive and a few long tunnels where I started to get hypnotized by the lights but straight forward and the road up the valley is a reasonable size so you're not generally stuck behind a crawling coach.

Book in advance and train from ZRH to Landeck is around 19 euros. Add a bus fare of 7.40 to Ischgl. Let the train take the strain.

@mayr, I'm seeing €62 each way ( trainline.eu ) where are you getting them for €19? I could be very interested!

@Arctic Roll, OBB.com (Austrian rail website). For €19 you need the Sparschiene ticket. There's only a certain number available per train so you need to get in early. Looks like you can't book past early December at the moment (though those dates do show tickets for €19 - just try the normal route planner function), but here's the info: http://www.oebb.at/en/angebote-ermaessigungen/sparschiene-schweiz
