Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

It's been a great season so far, here's a few from Mt Hutt over the last week. Had a 1.2m storm a couple of days ago, average base over 3m now and a lot more on the way in the next few days.

@hang11, looking good. Making us all jealous down this way. Every big storm this winter has missed the Southern Lakes areas. Crying or Very sad
But you guys have been getting it all.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

As I was driving down yesterday, there was a lot of snow falling off the bluffs at the top of the road - the one place that you really don't want anything bad to happen - big drops. I said to my daughter that it looks like it's about to let go......

Got home and saw this. They were lucky - wouldn't end well if they went over the edge....

The awesome season in the middle of the South Island continues. Another 20cm yesterday made for a cracking day above the clouds today. Minimal crowds, no lift queues although a delayed opening until 12.00 to de-ice everything, but it was a stunner once it got going. Base at Mt Hutt is now 3.5m.

This gives an idea of the ice that happens sometimes - only 40km or so from the coast

The access road was the usual fun with snow and ice on it

The 2017 season wrapped up on Sunday. It was one of the best for a long time. By all accounts, further south in Queenstown it was a bit of a shocker, but the mountains further north just kept getting smashed by big wet storms coming in off the pacific. Finished up with a 3.5 metre base still there, but nobody around. Everyone must have gone to the beach.

Really hope next year is just as good Very Happy Snowboards are all waxed and packed away in the garage, surfboards freshly waxed for summer, and a plan to get to Austria in January is being developed.

A few pictures from the last day

My son's just finished a season working in Queenstown and he thought it had been fine (possibly compared to Scottish skiing tbf), but found the two nearest resorts less than challenging, so had a few trips to Treble Cone and Cardrona. He finished his season with a three day visit to Mt Hutt last week though, which looks amazing in terms of the two views, looking east and west.

@honved, Cardrona is an intermediates dream but Treblecone has only two types of terrain: steep and steeper (and the best view anywhere...we loved it)

If you’re ever over this way again and there’s new snow, have a look at craigieburn and temple basin. Both are really good on the right day
