Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Obergurgl - any good?

Looking for easy skiing (one of the party is not a confident skier) and good apres. Does Obergurgl fit the bill?
Cheers

Apres isn't as wild as nearby Sölden but it's ok. Certainly very good for easy, snow-sure skiing though.

Ideal (Hochgurgl, connected by a cable car, is even better for this probably). Snow sure, long runs, very easy - the blacks are reds and the reds are blues, and for the more confident/capable skiers there's some really good off piste as well.

When are you going? We did Obergurgl with the family in Jan and weather was an issue for 2-3 days (lots of lifts closed including the Top Express to Hochgurgl so very limited skiing as even the easy slopes are wind-exposed). Not sure whether that's usual for that time of year? Good skiing with the kids (8 & 10) otherwise. Ended up just down the valley in Solden Easter the same year and really enjoyed that. Currently when you buy your weekly lift pass for either resort, for a small fee you can get one day in the other. Staff in resort told us that from next season Obergurgl and Hochgurgl will be on the same lift pass - which will great. Solden seemed less affected by weather and is only 20 mins from Obergurgl on the free service bus. We would go back to either but probably Solden by preference. There seemed to be a wider choice of both piste skiing and apres in Solden (although not a priority for us with the kids) but Obergurgl does have the Nederhutte!

Obergurgl would be my first choice- Solden is too big. Wonderful flattering skiing in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl with something for everyone and very good mountain restaurants plus the famous Nederhutte for apres.

I've never been, but a good friend of mine went there for I think his first or second ski trip (around 7 or 8 years ago) and seemed more than happy with the area.

Apres very quiet imo. Not a patch on St Anton or Ischgl which must be top of the tree but nor did it touch Saalbach. Skiing is intermediate

Took the family this Easter as my wife is a timid beginner. Positives are: gentle skiing, good mountain restaurants, pleasant high village, Nederhutte. Negatives are: limited and quite apres, few village restaurants or bars outside of hotels, expensive accommodation. Would I go back? Yes- but only for a few days as the ski area isn't huge.

Thanks folks. Obergurgl sounds like it ticks the skiing boxes and only there for 4 days
All great info - cheers
