Not quite sure the Zillertal train works that well for skiing.. It doesn't tend to stop that close to any of the lifts, that said you might be able to get a bus from the station, not sure of that, I've only ever used it for hiking when in the area..

Kaltenbach train station is about 5mins walk to the Hochzillertal gondola. From Fügen station there's a bus to Spieljoch or Hochfügen. You need a bus from Zell am Ziller to the gondola for Zillertal Arena. Bühel is actually called Bichl and is walking distance (obviously depends how happy you are about walking - it's about 10mins) to the Horberg gondola, which is part of the Mayrhofen ski area. You would probably need a bus from the Mayrhofen train station to the Penken gondola - it's not far, but it's an uphill walk.

I know that there is a Ski Depot in the base station in Kaltenbach and Hochfügen. I expect that there will be one when they have finished building the new gondola station for Spieljoch. I presume there is one in the other areas.
Decide where you're going to ski and leave your equipment there. Getting the train and/or a bus is much easier in street shoes.

That's Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm which is on a main line. Kitzbuhel actually has two train stations, Kitzbuhel main train station and the next stop being Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm.

@Snowsartre, since you mentioned Kitzbuhel, I thought I could share a good little option I discovered a couple of year's ago.
St Johann in Tyrol is just a 10 minute train journey from Kitzbuhel (free if you are in ski gear), has its own decent, if small ski area and has a lot of well priced and good accommodation. If you buy the Allstar lift pass, which is not much more expensive than the local pass, you can even head out to Leogang and Zell am See by train, or Steinplatte or Ellmau by bus.

I'm not sure you need to particularly worry about how far the Zillertalbahn station is from the lifts - a bus will drop you from the station straight at the bottom of the lifts. Pretty sure they're timed to go as soon as the train drops you so its just an extra 5 mins or so.
Mayrofen's most central so if you can get a B&B within walking distance of the station then you're good for train to Zell and Kaltenbach or bus to the glacier (and Gerlos I guess). Here you go ..https://www.zillertal.at/en/tips/winter/zillertal-superskipass.html

The allstar pass no longer exists - what you need now is the Salzburgerland pass, which now covers all the areas it used to, plus the areas which were in the allstar pass but in the Tirol so weren't covered by the old Salzburger pass.

FAQ
out there can recommend accommodation close (re walking distance with skis etc) to any of the Zillertal train stations in order that we might still access the slopes easily and indulge in a little apres-schi without needing someone to drive!
