Poster: A snowHead
|
Hiya
Newbie to this particular forum on SH. Thinking of purchasing skis for the first time as there are lots of end of season sales and I'm going twice a year now and sick of rental shops. Once purchased I wondered where best to check them out? I live close to 2 dry ski slopes but was worried about what the surface would do to the skis (do they damage them?). Or should I make a trip to Hemel/Telford?
Thanks for any advice

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@Mountaindoc, I wouldn't use any of my skis on a dry slope , and certainly not a brand new pair.
Get yourself along to a proper snow slope.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Mountaindoc, Why not test them in the resort and buy them there (after the test of course). If you buy them in the UK you have already purchased them so what is the point of "check them out" ?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

some of the domes have associated shops that offer ski testing. Might not have much left at this time of year though. I'd also second testing in resort if possible. Many will let you rent then knock the rental cost off the purchase price.

@johnE, I was concerned about choice in resort and also the price (would be in CHFs). I thought some UK stores may allow testing to ensure no major issues but I guess this may not be possible. Will have a think

@Mountaindoc, If you live near a snowdome there is normally an Ellis Brigham who will have skis you can test.

If you're not going again this season then wait until the Oktobertest, a good chance to try out some options...although obviously won't help with the end of season sale thing.
