 Poster: A snowHead

Hi
We are a group of eighteen ranging from 8 years old to 80! We have been to Morzine for the last two years over half term and had a great time. We are all in agreement that for 2018 half term we need to venture somewhere new. A large chalet in La Tania has been offered to us and at a very reasonable price. I have never been to this area before and wondered if anyone has any opinions/views on wether it would suit us. All the kids will be in lessons but this is there third time so they are starting to get pretty adventurous, The older bunch like to Cross Country and I presume they would be able to do this there?
Any advice on whether we should entertain La Tania would be greatly appreciated and also on how snow sure it is as from what I have read it is fairly low compared to the rest of the 3 valleys. One final thing will there be enough challenging skiing for us all and if not is it easy enough to venture higher and further?
Any comments massively appreciated as it's my neck on the line

@holyjasper, yes, good base for a mixed group. It's perfectly high enough, and there's lots of challenging skiing just a couple of lifts away, including a great and mostly deserted black (jockeys)

Went a few years ago with a mixed group and it fitted the bill perfectly. Very easy for the different split off groups to meet up for lunch.

Just don`t do La Tania if you have any nervous skiers. The blue run (many would describe as more of a red!) back the the village becomes very icy and pretty challenging if the snow is poor, though to be fair half term is likely to be good for snow cover.
A number of folk chose to drive/bus round to Courchevel 1800 whilst we were there in admittedly poor snow conditions.
Otherwise so long as the situation your accommodation suits you in terms of access to the pistes its a nice place for a ski holiday.

@holyjasper, you're also a run home from 2 of my fave restaurants in the 3v, Bouc Blanc for very reasonable local grub, and La Soucoupe for a big, expensive lunch of impeccable meat and a superb wine list, and an overdraft...

@holyjasper, will be fine, snow normally lasts from Dec to April back to La Tania.
quick bubble up and over, easy acccess to Courchevel or Meribel the other way and can download on the gondola if folk want to avoid the blue or green home run.

le Praz is the village next to La Tania and looks like there a x-country track to le Praz plus lots in the area

a lot of the blue can be avoided too, head down the green, cut across below the bouc blanc lift station, straight across the blue down the track on the other side, follow it round and re-join the blue further down, then it's not far to the centre.
Or just stay on the green, although that crosses a wide red and has some interesting turns as it wiggles it's way down, perfect on a quiet day for pretending you are Marcel Hirscher

In my opinion - great location for a mixed group. Been there myself, many times with kids / beginners / boarders / the very adventurous! Something to suit all. Been January and late March - blue back down always fine - and you can always take the bubble back down! Plenty of Apres Ski and some good live bands. Great choice of ski schools also. Free bus service easy to use to get around. Great imformative web site that you will find usefull - www.latania.co.uk.

Ah Jockeys - my first ever black run. Day three of my first week on skis. I was doing so well then somehow decked it and started thumping the snow in frustration only to have it pointed out to me by my mate that I'd actually passed the last piste marker and was now technically on the red it joins (Is it Murettes?) so had, in fact, managed to conquer that first black upright all the way. I was so chuffed with myself 
In answer to the OP I'd say go for it. Great area with lots to do for all abilities.

One more quick recommendation - if you are going half term - go for a chalet / accomodation that runs sunday-sunday.
Less traffic on the roads meaning driving time / transfers a lot nicer!!
