Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Molina in the middle of April

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Planning to go to La Molina the second/third week of April, never been out that way before. Saw something when I was searching through snowheads from a 2010 thread where someone listed it under "Resort that are usally open end of april beginning May" - does that sound right? Other resort guides I've found online suggest it's quite low but I'm not sure what the area is like, aspect, trees, region etc

At that time of year you'll have more luck at Masella on the other side of the hill. (There is a joint lift pass called Alp2500 which might interest you.)

La Molina itself is mainly a hill rather than a mountain (the mountainous bit is the shared terrain with Masella) so doesn't tend to hold up all that well at the end of the season.

To be honest, if you're going for multiple days then I would have to recommend Grandvalira in Andorra instead at that time of year. But Masella is great for a day trip and is the longest opening resort in the whole of the Pyrenees. I'm often there for closing day in May.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I was there late April the season before last. That was I believe a bad year for European snow, but the pistes were fine, nothing off though. I drove up behind a plough in about 20cm of fresh. I think this is mostly Massella (the bigger place), although Molina was also open and they're 5 minutes drive apart. it was clearly still in business at that time and a better shot than (say) Austria for access and actually snow cover at that time of year. Pretty quiet too.

Thanks @Pyremaniac, unfortunately I don't have a choice, but if my lift pass covers Masella I'll definitely check it out

@philwig, when you say the pistes were fine do you mean at La Molina or Masella? Thanks

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@moseyp, Both were similar to what you see there. It had been a bad season for all Europe but I think the Pyrenees had the best conditions at that time in Europe.
