Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all, looking to get a few last turns in this year from about mid April. Wondered if anyone had stayed in Innsbruck and bussed to the nearby resorts? As it's late season was looking at maybe bussing to Stubai Glacier everyday from Innsbruck. Any advice on this or any other local resorts to Innsbruck most appreciated. Thanks in advance

@kabby, I wouldn't bus it from Innsbruck on a regular basis - it takes ages. We did that the first time we went. Next time we went to Stubai we stayed at Neustift which was better for us - it's a nice village and is a lot closer to the glacier. Axamer Lizum is closer to Innsbruck by bus. That was quite nice for a day.

thanks for the reply pjd
Appreciate it. Yes found out the best place to stay is Neustift, so will be looking for some accommodation there. By the way, does anyone know how easy it is to travel to Neustift from Innsbruck?
Thanks again

If you're going primarily to ski Stubai, def stay in Neustift. Bus from IBK-Stubai is 1-1.5 hours.

Easy to get from Neustift to Innsbruck - just hop on the same bus in the other direction.

Mid-April Stubai may be the only ski option local to Innsbruck, unless you're into ski touring. Most of the resorts will close lifts around that time (when exactly depends...), though you can always ski at least another month at each resort if you're into earning your turns.

From Innsbruck it's also as easy to get to St Anton as it is to Stubai - 1 hour on a direct train. Likewise Kitzbühel. Ischgl, Sölden and Obergurgl (+ many others) are also doable in similar timeframes, but easy with a car than public transport.

@kabby, if you're happy to be in just the glacier ski area for a few days, you could consider the Dresdner Hütte which is more like a small hotel than alpine hut. This is at 2,308m at the first stage of the old gondola, so ski-in-out skiing possible from here.
