Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR - Pitzal Valley half term

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Our first half term trip with the kids aged 6 and 8, previously been at Christmas, New Year, Easter and a cheeky long weekend.

Travel : by chance found very sensibly priced flights when looking for the next holiday after getting back from the summer hols. Birmingham to Munich out Saturday afternoon and back Sunday evening for £425 for all 4 of us with Lufthansa. Minor disaster when my son's bag didn't show up, though only contained his non-ski gear so was the best bag to lose! The bag turned up at our hotel 3 days later, would have been 2 days but the clueless courier turned up at the hotel only to find he didn't have the bag with him. Hire collected from Hertz Gold area which by-passes the car hire desk.

Overnight stop at Garmish Mercure, thanks to the baggage fiasco we arrived at midnight, food breakfast and then on our way over the Fern Pass in glorious sunshine. Lermoos ski area looked nice.

Hotel : Pitzis Kinderhotel, our second stay at a kinderhotel, the room was great, separate room for the kids with bunk beds, nice view down the valley, etc. There was a pool we used most evenings, various cute looking animals in a barn, a large outside playground and all day child care which we didn't use. All food and drink was included (except cocktails and non-house wine). We thought the hotel was slightly more geared to younger children but ours had fun and said they wanted to go back. Overall very good and good value at just over €300/night.

Skiing : The hotel had a small beginners area which looked perfect for 3-4 year olds first go on snow. The nearest proper ski area was Hochzeiger about 15 mins away, there was a free bus but we drove and parked within 1-2 mins walk from the slopes. The kids had 4 days of all-day lessons, very few Brits around with the kids being the only native English speakers in the lessons. It was a nice little resort with lifties always helping load and unload skis from the gondola, the 40km of slopes having a good mix of runs and being reasonably compact we were never more than 1 lift away from the ski school meeting point.
We brought the Pitz Regio lift pass which covers Hochzeiger, Pitzal Glacier/Rifflsee and Imst, kids under 10 get a free pass for each adult pass. We tried them all, the Glacier having the best snow and amazing views from the restaurant at 3444m and Rifflsee giving my son a challenging red from the top. We went to Imst to try out the alpine rollercoaster which was great fun and also managed a few runs.
Every where we went the slopes were quite and I don't think we queued for more than minute at any lift, for our first half term holiday it was very successful and we'll definitely be back but maybe not next year as it'll clash with Fasching.
