Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dunkirk to Austria

Any idea of the best way to Austria from Dunkirk ?
On the Google maps it says via Brussels but I've always got stuck in traffic in Belgium.
Also the guides never take into account road works.

Depends where in Austria..?? I travel through to the Dolomite's and always go Lille, then Charleoi, Luxembourg (cheaper fuel - 1.02 for diesel), Pirmarsens to Landau, then pick up the autobahn to Stuggart and onto Ausburg. From here I go via Garmisch dropping down in Innsbruck and onto the Brenner pass. This also depends on what time of day you travel at...
Have found the Belgium roads to have quite a few roadworks, but it doesn't take long to get through.
There a quite a few other threads on here to digest, so carry on reading and searching.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm going to Weer near Innsbruck. Thanks for the replies. I'm now not sure whether to come down to Munich on the E411 to the West of Luxembourg or the E61 to East of Luxembourg Some other guys have suggested going all the way over to Frankfurt but that seems even further out of the way mileage wise.

Lille - Charloi - Namur - Luxembourg - then A8 to Pirmasens - B10 to Karlsruhe to rejoin A8, I believe is the suggested route.
Then for Weer, either via Munich, or over the Fernpass, depending on traffic and amount of snow. Time-wise, there's nothing in it ime.

I wouldn't go via Frankfurt, but some do. By E61, I assume you mean A61 via Koblenz? I wouldn't go that way either.

.
I would totally agree with this route..I came back from Zell 2 weeks ago and went round Munich where there was a holdup for 1.5 hours on the autobahn ...and have done the above via Garmisch before ...much more pleasant.

I always stop in Yutz just outside Luxembourg on the way back ..or there... as its a reasonable drive in a day and there are plenty of value hotels virtually on the motorway

dont forget your Austrian road tax sticker before you get there ....and ..I always get confused as to where to get to the ferry port at Dunkirk...its junction 53 ...very badly marked!
