Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Junior skis for a lighweight, competitive girl

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am on the market for a new pair of skis for my 10-yr old daughter. In a couple of weeks she will start training with a local team, she's a very competitive and aggressive skier ... however she is also very light for her age and height (27 kg).
At the moment she skis 130 cm Racetiger Jr but I notice that she does not manage to bend them much. I was told that both Head and Rossignol have junior ski models with different stiffness but I am finding little information about how they compare to each other. Ski tests seem sci-fi for junior skis too.
Any of the forum users willing to share their experience on the matter? Thank you.

Take care,
BB

Checkout Fischer skis. They are stiff torsionally? But easy to bend. a great ski for kids.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No personal feedback since sadly long outgrown that age group, but Atomic, Head and Rossignol junior race skis look the most popular amongst the young squads up north, so maybe could do worse than check their ranges.

Once she joins the team, borrow lots of different ones from the other kids and see what she likes. Our kids swap constantly and it gives them a good idea of what suits them in length, make, radius etc. Much cheaper than buying. Between ours we have volkl, dynastar, atomic, Fischer, head, elan, Rossi, some pink hello kitty skis...

The coach will likely have his/her own views, the team may well have a discount deal with a local store, and there may also be a store that does a season rental/ race prep inclusive deal (e.g. Ski clinic in cluses).

I think the real world is a lot more useful than the internet in this respect. However, since you asked for personal experience, my 9yr old 30kg son really likes his 130cm and 139cm dynastar team pro for gs and general skiing, but prefers his 115cm atomic race 10 for slalom and dry slope. I think his next pair of skis will be 125 pure slalom, but more for plastic than snow. He tried and liked some Rossi hero gs in 144 but found a 140 Fischer a bit unwieldy.

Head have a reputation for being stiff. The Fischers are good for lightweight kids.

Thanks for the tips. I will focus on Rossi, Dynastar and Fischer then.
