Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!

When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does anyone know where I can find some videos of Short Turns required for the different levels of the Austrian Ski Instuctor levels ?
(or even the written requirements)
I have looked on You Tube and found BASI levels 2,3,&4 but nothing for the Austrian system.
Video clips of any other national system (equivalent to the Austrian would also be useful.)

Impressive skiing and unbelievable athleticism from Andreas Spettel.
However, on nearly ever short radius carved turn he makes from left to right - when his left leg is the downhill / outside ski - his right leg / uphill / inside ski leaves the snow surface.
Which to my understanding does not show carving and edging prowess and should have been picked up long before he became an examiner.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the strict standards we might use to measure the quality of turns of people striving to achieve a certain level of skiing no longer apply when someone is skiing way beyond that level.
I also suspect the sheer amount of energy and pop you're going to get when doing such high speed dynamic edging turns means it becomes almost impossible to keep your skis on the snow all the time.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If it was happening on both left and right turns then I agree. The fact that it isn't, suggests an imbalance in both
movement
and technique.
And yes he skis at a ridiculously high level.
