Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fat skis are not slalom skis.

Today I wasn't doing a full day and there was a chance of catching a few bits of off piste so for a bit of fun I decided to take my fat skis out. Bent Chetlers at 185cm and 120mm underfoot. With a 19m radius and a short running edge due to the rocker they are surprisingly nimble on piste and are pretty fast. The snow was basically hero snow so I got a little carried away on an empty piste and instinctively started to use them a bit like the slalom skis I usually ski on.

What I found is that when you have them cranked over it helps if you allow them to flatten and then slowly let the opposite edges engage. If you make short/medium turns down the fall line at high speed and try to bounce them into the air between turns then eventually you land one ski before the other or both in slightly different directions, well I did anyway. I did quite a nice slide before I managed to get my remaining ski dug in and stopped. One ski had popped off well above me but a young and attractive female snowboarder brought it down the slope to me. Rescued by a darksider... oh the shame.

Note to self: Remember what damn skis you are on rolling eyes
