Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easy ski tours near Les2Alpes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey All,

Wondering if anyone can point me towards an easy ski tour near Les2Alpes.. a few of us are pretty experienced, along with a few novices... so looking for something around 500m or less climbing, no tricky terrain to ski back down on.. ideally without the need for a car.. we're staying in Les2Alpes, but can get down to Venosc.

Ideally ending at a manned refuge for a spot of melted cheese.

Cheers,

Guy

@guybowden1, Welcome to snowHead When are you here, snow a bit lacking still atm. If there's enough snow Vallée Blanche is a good introduction, no refuge but à resto on the way back down. Not sure of bigger ones with refuge nearby. If you want a guide for the day try Damien Albert.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There next weekend... the touring idea was so we could get away from the boredom of pistes since there's not a lot of off-piste that'll be any good.. more of a walk in the mountains with skis on our feet rather than for any thoughts of a good ski down Smile

Whilst we were there in 2014, lads from Ireland staying in our shared Chalet did the Heli ride over to Alpe d'huez for a day. They said is was a great day out + the heli ride there and back, think it cost them approx 65 euros each (6 of them). The L2A pass enabled them to ski there for the day, so no extra cost. Not sure if there is a website..

If you don't want to drive the only realistic option is to ski down to Les Travers from the back of the Super Venosc Chair then skin back out. That would be about 600m of vertical. Otherwise Col de Lauteret is the sensible option.

Tours in the Lautaret / Galibier sector http://www.stylealtitude.com/tourguide

There are many more that I've not included - but best look at my Strava profile - there must be many more close to LDA - Chazlelet above La Grave I've done quite a few there for instance.

Look at GeoPortal and look for Blue ski tour lines

Lauteret to Villar d'Arene - requires car and favourable snowpack - i.e. a corn cycle. Gives c. 1,000m ski descent for c. 500m ascent. No more than red run gradient.

Park up at the Lauteret and skin north towards the Galibier following the line of the D902. Leave the line of the D902 and turn north west up the obvious valley and keep going until you reach the top - c. 2,800 metres or thereabouts. Ski down the south facing bowl to Villar d'Arene, where there is an obvious bar by the road, or at least there was last time I was there. Send someone to hitch back for the car. Drink beer, talk about how rad you are.

There is no good touring in LDA. Believe me, I looked.

@gorilla, http://www.stylealtitude.com/ski-tour-crete-de-cote-plaine.html

Trouble is last couple of seasons snow has run out well above Villar D'Arene

We do numerous tours in the Vallons De Roche Noire - whilst the World and his wife do the classic Pic Blanc
