Poster: A snowHead

Gidday all,
I posted a while back asking if anyone had any views on a movement thunder or Kingswood skis.
I'm not going with the kingswood as although they look great, I've got no way of testing them until I get back to NZ and I can't find anywhere to test the thunders.
I'm after a twin tip all mtn ski. I currently ride scott P3s but the 04/05 season ski(the black and red ones) . They are great for tricks and just having fun but I find them far too soft and at 76 underfoot want somthing a bit wider.
I'm looking at some Karmas that I hope to test and by all reports looks like they are a great all mountain twin tip.
I ride approx 50/50 on/off piste so the width underfoot at 87 is fine and I hear the are stiff for a twin tip.
Has any one here used these and can offer any views.
Thanks all

I had a pair of Thunders, until I lost one off piste in Chamonix in Jan. I won't go on about that though.
At that stage it was the widest ski I had skied for any length of time and I really enjoyed it. I hadn't tested it, there weren't exactly abound in England or France although you understandably see a few in Switzerland.
I don't ski a lot on piste so can't claim the usual 'always gets an edge on hardpack' since I don't really know. I ski very fast on piste in large GS turns so I'm not really working the edges under stress of swing or slalom turns. Found them OK on piste, but I felt a little less certain than with my previous 170cm Crossmax 8skis, which are much more suitable for piste.
That said, I skied the steepest terrain I ever have, incuding a 50deg couloir in a mixture of conditions, powder, soft slough, windblown and they coped very well with everything and never failed me when I needed control. In powder they were very good, although they are lightweight and I struggled in crusty offpiste to break though.
I really like them, I would consider replacing them although I plonked them down upright on some concrete and damaged (chipped a piece off) the top sheet of one of them which for an expensive ski did annoy me. I had Sally 912's on them incidentally.

flicksta, Thanks for that, I'll be looking at remounting my marker 1400 free bindings on what ever I go for. I'll just need to get a wider brake as the std fits on the old P3s.

Indeed, I had to get fat brakes, even for 87mm.
They would make a super touring ski, since they are so light (even though Movement do make touring specific even lighter skis).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

kiwi1, Karmas are sweet. They are on the stiff size. How tall are you? How much do you weigh?

Karmas are one of the best fat twins around. Quite stiff. But very different to most twin tips because it feels better on piste than you would expect of an 87mm ski. Go for 177cm

Yep, my Karmas have pretty much consigned my GS skis to the cupboard, since they are OK on-piste (even running gates!) except when it gets really hard and icy or for ultimate on-piste performance, but are far superior everywhere else. I like the stiffness of them though it can catch you out sometimes, especially in tight couloirs. I found 177 was the best balance for me of agility and stability.

Just a quick one to say thanks to all the replies. I've tried the 177 Karmas. Thought they were the business. Stiffer than most twins and a surprise how good they were on piste and they rock off.
Spoken to Neil at Freeze, looking to send up my P3s, get the bindings moved onto a new pair of Karmas then get away for the last week in March for a quick play before it warms up.
Thanks again guys.
