Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I am in whistler at the moment and there is a lot of talk about this video, and also a commentary from a mountain expert with a few pointers about what they did correct but also what they did wrong. Can't find the link but main point was they were on a wind blown face that should have been tested before entering the face. Having said that it's interesting watching and just pleased he was ok.
Check out his Facebook profile, looks like he likes the outdoor activities.

And for those of you that wouldn't trust a jet force airbag, well it worked in this occasion.

If he was after a morning adrenaline rush he certainly got one. Not a huge avalanche but glad he had his airbag on and the wherewithal to deploy it, could have been a very different result.

What's the intermittent whine noise? Airbag pump? I'm surprised it operates more than just once, I'd always imagined them like a single discharge.

GlasgowCyclops, that certainly is - thanks for posting.

Also makes it clear that it wasn't in Whistler, although many people think it was in bounds there.

It's a fan operated airbag similar to a Jetforce model (see demo here:
http://youtube.com/v/HPOMm2fO1_Q). After the initial inflation they pulse to keep the bag inflated.

The whole of BC was pretty wind hammered earlier. That layer is in there. In the Whistler valley the wind direction was different from normal, so not quite so easy to predict what it would do. I was riding across the valley up to the day before. It was harder than you'd expect to predict where the slab was precisely. However we saw nothing anything like that scale in the days before.

All of the ridges were pounded by the wind there: even when the slope itself was good, the top sections were all slab.

I like the Jet Force concept better than the others. However it's not possible to say what would have happened without it in this case.
