Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

In 2010 I took in the avi warnings in Arolla yet still skied a slope which set alarm bells ringing. It went in places as I traversed and I was committed to an unstable slope. I did turns which were long, and feather-light. But I got away with. I s*at myself all the way down. Never again.
It's falling out of the sky now. And the base is weird this year. Arriving now in resort and hitting the backcountry without thinking ... when there were high winds over Christmas? Bad idea.

+1. Avalanche warning at 4 here.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's the same in the Pyrenees. In the Val d'Aran apparently they put out a exceptional warning today that rescue for any mountain activities at the moment would not be free of charge; the risks are too high, and accidents put the rescue folks at undue risk.

In Austria (Amade region) we have two distinct zones. Up to the tree line around 2000m there is low risk, but above this the gullies are full of drifts, the ridges have been wind scoured and there are sudden areas of slab. It's still snowing too. Brilliant off piste conditions but stick to the trees
