Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St Anton - Recommendations?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Going to St Anton on 4th Feb with a group of 12.

All fairly experienced - a couple of instructors, an ex-seasonaire etc.

Any recommendations on:

a) best off-piste runs
b) guides
c) best bumps runs

Cheers
Mark

b) Graham Austick - Piste to Powder. I didn't get to ski with him myself but it was clear that the guy is legend around St Anton. Book before u go though or you'll be unlikely to get in.

btw. Welcome to snowHeads snowHead

markymark, Graham Austick is very much recommended. I'm skiing with Piste to Powder that week.

The Mattun valley is probably the best of the itinerary runs. If you don't have local knowledge then the true off-piste is best avoided without a guide as it is quite dangerous and avalanche prone. With a guide the run off the top of the Valluga down to Zurs is a classic.

Every run in St Anton is a bump run by the end of the day!

stanton, despite your scaremongering, our Chalet proved to be really nice the other week, as were the staff; even the TO rep was good! (and reps rarely get a good word from me!)
And I didn't set foot over the threshhold of Spar even once Little Angel

I can vouch for that I was in St Anton's Spar quite a few times and didn't see Admin in there once.

You're joking right? that place ain't even open after Apres ski.
I'm not a tourist or a punter, I'm just feeding my addictions (i.e. skiing and those rather nice fruity bars they sell in Spar).

markymark, the thing to know with St Anton is that the top ski school classes are off piste all day long, so you don't actually need to go to the expense of a guide unless you want to.

Some of my favourite off-piste there is over the back of the Rendl (called the Hinterer Rendl) - lovely bowls of powder on the right day, peeling into a beautiful valley and down through the woods.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
