Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New speed cameras - besancon to jougne

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Today went through the snow-bare Jura and SH heading that way might like to know that there are a number of new speed cameras on the 90 kph sections and one on the town 50 kph sections - just be aware and stick to the speed limit - and of course now 80kph all the way down the hill into CH from jougne, no new cameras this year but three or four on the way down the hill ...

Thanks for the tip. Do you ever use the alternative route Poligny - Champagnole - Jougne ? I tend not to use it at night, but I like it in good weather in daylight. It would be interesting to hear if that has had any "improvements."

I was going the other way on Sunday night but cut across from Pontarlier to Dole, fair number of places had speed bumps and 30km sections but didn't notice many cameras elsewhere.

@planeurge, ...yes I too used this route a lot in the past but we now use besancon - jougne since although it looks farther it's far faster and clearer when there's snow .... when there's snow!!!!!! Fat chance...,

Driving in France is a mine field!!!! It is common practice all over France to put in a temporary speed limit change, not known to GPS systems. So you need to keep a very careful eye on the roadside signs and make sure you keep to them. If going to Austria via Lille there are several traps before and after the town.

Also don't forget Belgium has a motorway toll for vehicles over 3.5 tns. Introduced last summer.

Yep in Europe they are generally quite sensitive with traffic stuff lately. I guess it's better for the environment but oh my

Tangent from France thread, sorry..... we came back from Austria last week. breganz, Ulm, stuggart, phorzheim the Eifle to Luxembourg. The worst trip ever, no joke. Loads of road works, speed limits, diversions. One bridge actually has 3 speed cameras (probably aimed at different lanes) within 100 meters. There appeared to be a pattern of speed limit of 100 Kph for each motorway exit/entrance. A nightmare with no exaggeration. Not looking forward to repeating this any time soon.

Not when we lived there. Regular practice to overtake police cars whilst 30kph over the speed limit on the motorways. Wallonia more lax than Flanders though. The local plod used to have a glass of wine at the local at 10:00am. Strange country but oddly endearing

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Local plod in Flanders used to have a glass of wine whilst having lunch at the tennis club....then pick their pistol up and get back in their squad car.

Lovely place Belgium...was lucky enough to have lived there for three years. Would go back in a heartbeat...

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Brussels plain clothes police attended a work function where I worked (I was involved in EU bureaucracy). For some reason they decided they would not bring their pistols so they left them in the glove-box of their car. Sheepish looks all round upon returning to their car to find car broken into, glove box open, and said weapons gone.

 You know it makes sense.

The Flemish who live here in a Wallonia call the locals 'special'. However back to the roads; beware of 'yellow plates' (of the Luxembourg variety) they ignore all speed limits (no agreement with Luxembourg to follow up speeding fines).
Locals do not give way to cars in the fast lane on motorways and will pull out from behind trucks at the last moment regardless of space. Truly horrendously frightening. Shocked
