Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Weather can be awful, windy, snow and/or extremely cold (like up to -35C). Glasses will likely not do.
Photochramic will be poor - you will be in artifical lights (probably yellow, orange or pinky white) and it will be gloomy to dark (it is Arctic winter!).
Clear goggles or special very light yellow ones are best. If you can afford it, wait and buy what they sell out there: they'll be what's best suited (though maybe also expensive, depending on the make). That's what I did last year, was well worth it, also then useful in gloomy Alpine light. If not go to Decatlon and get some clear or "CatS1" ones for cloud and night-time.
Look on the web cams to get an idea.
Have a nice holiday.

Definitely Goggles! Bolle do lots of reasonable deals https://goo.gl/NcJG4E
I've heard some of those helmets with built in visors cope pretty well as well Smile

I was there last year and goggles is defenitely something you shouldn't save money on. I was suffering from snow blindness symptoms because of using low quality sunglasses and it was not pretty. Also snow came in everywhere. Now i use proper goggles (here's the brand if you're interested: https://www.edel-optics.co.uk/Oakley-Sports-glasses.html ) and im totally fine now even in rough regions like that. Just never take them off for to long especially in higher up places.

I got some totally clear Oakley lenses for night skiing for only £25, but in most low light conditions I prefer the hi-yellow lens, you can also get various coatings designed to increase contrast. Some people seem to prefer a slight pink tint rather than yellow, but that is down to preference.
