Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Portes du Soleil - recommendations for off-piste guide/guidebook

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We're off ot PdS (again) in January and February, and looking for an off piste guide, mainly lift-served, although we're not averse to some bootpacking or short skins. Can anyone advise a good local guide, or guidebook for off piste and/or touring?

Thanks.

Hi @Chamcham, surprised no-one picked this up. What resort are you going to? If you're in Morzine or Avoriaz I'd talk to Ian McKellar at http://www.avoriazalpineskischool.com/off-piste-guiding . In fact that would work from Chatel or Les Crosets too, but other snowHead may have other recommendations. Have fun! Madeye-Smiley

A book called Chablais by Jean-Baptiste Mang is a good one with various routes and can be bought in English. We also run touring sessions and can show you lift accessible routes. If you send me an email to enquiry@pds-academy.co.uk with more details I can send you some options.

@shep, @jjc, thanks for your advice. Mang's book looks good, although I wasn't planning a full-on tour this time. We're based in Chappelle, but we could easily get to Avoriaz within 30 mins of the lifts opening. I'll speak to my skiing buddy and let you know if we decide to take it further.

These should be on your "compulsory purchase" list:
