Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Not this season but a few years ago. Good if you're trying to gain in confidence and ski your first reds, but limited area.

The accommodation is spread out on the side of a long hill which makes it a bit awkward travelling up and down on foot in the evenings - there's a long road tunnel to negotiate if you're situated up at the top.

Most of the accommodation is on the slopes though which is good, and try and have some time down in Aosta which is a nice town in the valley accessible by gondola from the resort (but check the last run times!) We went there for lunch on a snowy day. Try a Grolla at the end of the day!

We had good snow and enjoyed it the week we were there.

I went December last year. It's average at best.

The two top blacks were permanently closed. Checking the SCGB site seemed to indicate that they were closed all season.

It doesn't seem to get an abundance of snow, but on the plus side, it's not too busy.

Hints? Buy the area pass and bus it to Cormayeur and Cervinia to mix up what is otherwise limited skiing.

Sorry.

I went there for a day a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty good - everywhere was open. Not enough area for a full week for an advanced intermediate or above, but it is the best small-medium resort I've ever been to. It only has about 70km of piste I think, but what it has got is quite varied. Had some fantastic venison stew & polenta in one of the lower mountain eateries (sorry can't remember the name).

By all means head further afield to Courmayeur, or even La Thuile for the day, but don't bother with Cervinia unless there is a snow drought: altitude is all it has to offer, other than mile after mile after mile of tediously easy blues & reds. Skiing-wise, there is nothing in Cervinia you can't get in Pila, not unless you pay the extra lift pass and head over to Zermatt. But then you are talking about a very long day. Courmayeur much quicker to get to from Pila.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I skied for 2 days in Pila just before New Year and thought it was really good. Very picturesque. I enjoyed it.
