Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lending skis to a friend

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm having trouble figuring this one out. I've got a pair of skis that my mate is going to borrow on our annual ski trip.

I'm a size 9 shoe, my mate is size 10, will my skis bindings fit or can be adjusted to fit his ski boot ? The bindings are Head but can't remember which model.

Cheers

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Probably, but it depends on the binding. If the binding is on a rail there is plenty of scope for adjustment – move toe and heel to his boot sole length (generally marked on the heel and on the rail) and check the forward pressure is correct.

If the binding is fixed there may not be very much adjustment available, but your boot sizes may be close enough to be ok. Ideally, you need to find out your BSL, your friend's BSL and the binding model to work out if it is compatible, then take them to someone who knows how to adjust them.

Cheers they are fixed bindings, my friend cannot find his BSL which is not marked his boot, but I know mine.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

So in the absence of a physical test the answers can only be maybe or maybe not. You can test how much range you heelpiece has as a proxy yourself. If its 10mm or more you may be ok but that depends on w whole other set of assumptions as to BSL chaange between sizes, models, brands and even whether either of you is unde ror over sized in boots.

I'm guessing but most alpine (if you don't know what I'm talking about they are alpine) bindings have about 20-30 mm adjustment.

So you might be fine.

But you might not.

Thanks for the answers peeps, I'll have a look at the skis and see how much adjustment there is, will be mating ski to his boot before going and if it doesn't fit he will be mating his boot to my butt ;-0

Are you sure he's looking in the right place (by the heel)? I don't think I've ever seen a boot that didn't have the BSL marked on it.

Why not pop to a ski shop in the UK and see if they can set the book/ski up for you?
