Poster: A snowHead

I'm flying with Jet 2 for the first time on Saturday. Noticed that in their Ts&Cs it states one piece of hold baggage only. Plus skis for which you pay carriage at check in. Does this mean I need to put my boots in my main bag, or will I get away with extra boot bag? Also, has anyone ever had any problems with getting their skis on the flight? I'm slightly nervous of the fact ski carriage is paid at the airport, with Easyjet you pay when you book.
Many thanks.

beanie1, can't speak from personal experience but at least 2 fellow skiers on my recent trip came from Manchester (to Geneva) by Jet 2. They brought skis and did not mention any problems.

We flew Jet2 manchester to chambery last week. they weighed every piece of hold luggage - and asked us to delare pairs of skis, not ski bags, so when we dclared three (for three bags) we were significantly over the wieght limit - but the nice lady allowed us to change that to four pairs of skis (one bag holding two pairs) so we were only just over.
their basic allowance is 18 kilos. £10 per leg then gets you an extra 10 kilos, and they allow boot bags to be separate to ski bags and regular hold luggage.
paying for the ski carriage wasn't really a hassle - checkin is downstairs at terminal 1 and once we'd checked in the bags we had to pop tpo the other side of the hall and pay for ski carriage (and excess baggage) then run back over with the receipt to collect our boarding cards.
note, for the return leg our bags were not weighed, but the check-in chappie *did* ask to see the receipt for ski carriage (possibly beacuase e oveheard us talking about it)

I had to go to manchester on Monday for a funeral and never noticed anyone having problems with luggage at the geneva or manchester end - no rants taking place anyway - I think I was the only person with less than 4 kg of luggage

nbt,
Looks like they've changed the allowance since I booked my flight. My printed email confirmation states 20kg hold baggage, plus skis for which they charge carriage. Plus 10kg cabin baggage.

beanie1, just be thankful you won't be using the Sleazyjet "Self Service" check-in at Geneva

I got a Jet 2 shuttle from manc to gatwick in december to fly out to Canada. I had a boot bag as well as my case and cabin bag , the check in lady looked at it for a long second and then accepted it no hassle.

Grrrr. My printed confirmation (booked in september) also says 20 kilos! no matter though, it's too late now

Whereas I used that at the eosb last year and found it great - no hassle at all, just walk up, enter details, sort out labels, dump bags and fninshed in 10 minutes.

Ryanair now has a 15kg limit and that includes boots (nearly 5kg) which they do not permit as hand luggage.

Take off shoes in checkin queue and place into lugagge. wear boots on plane. swap back when luggage collected at other end.
when they question suitability, refuse to change unless they give you free carriage for your ski boots - after all, they're foot wear, so wear them on your feet

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Ryanair are about to start charging for ALL hold luggage: £5 per bag! That might make things a little more expensive!
