Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Let's call my friend Lucy...it's not her real name, she would prefer me not to use it.

Lucy has been training for he Eurotest and has nearly passed a couple of times. She now lives in Switzerland and decided that she should get her full Cert there.
The Swiss have a similar test to Eurotest and give equivalence if you have passed, as she has not passed she needed to do it.

Last season she turned up at a Test feeling pretty nervous.

A.n.other tester approached her and engaged in conversation:
Man: Ah, are you the BASI candidate? You are the only non Swiss person here! Welcome...how are you feeling?
Lucy: Pretty nervous actually...how about you?
Man: Ah, not so nervous myself....have you been training much?
Lucy: Quite a bit....

and here it gets good:

Lucy: You do know this is a Giant Slalom course? I can't help but notice you are on Slalom skis, you might find those a bit difficult. It usually helps to have skis that have a turn radius that matches the course layout. If you don't pass today I'd suggest getting some GS skis for the next time.
Man: Ah, I just picked these ones today, I like these skis.

They chat a bit more, his number is called and he goes to the start.

As he starts everybody stops talking and watches....he ZOOMS down the course!!

Lucy: Wow, he is quick!
A.N.other tester: You do know who that is don't you?
Lucy: No, who is it?

A.N.Other: Didier Cuche!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Lucy: O.M.G. and I was telling him he was on the wrong skis !

She passed too.

I wonder how he compared with the openers?

I've a few similar stories from training and coaching at Manchester velodrome when GB squad riders (and ex squad) riders turn up just for a spin and start getting advice from relative beginers.

@Dave of the Marmottes, that was my thought.

@rungsp, no doubt he'd need to do the qualification but ex-World Cup racers with sufficient points are exempt from the Eurotest.

Still a great story though. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

It's anyone with less than 100 or 85 points but only if you apply within five years so someone like Cuche could end up having to do it

Maybe he was just having a laugh, seeing how much he cold beat the openers by on the "wrong skis". Maybe he thinks he shouldn't be able to avoid it. Maybe that's the only bit of the qualification he enjoys....

Remember it was not Eurotest but the Swiss Test (whatever its official name is) so FIS points may not apply.

Very Happy

Not as good a story but I worked with an Australian guy who came back from a stag weekend. They'd been meeting up in a bar in London. It was pretty empty when he arrived early and he saw another guy who looked like he was waiting so he introduced himself - sure enough it was someone else for the stag party. Another Australian guy. Mark.
Conversation turned to "so what do you do?"
- "Oh I race cars"
- "Really? A mate of mine is a racing driver - he teaches, does a bit of GT racing, had a few good results recent actually. So what do you race?"
- "Formula 1"
- "Ah... Mark... Webber?"
grins

Nice bloke apparently
