Poster: A snowHead

I know there's been much debate about mounting a gopro on a helmet since the unfortunate event 3 years ago so I'm interested to hear opinions on the helmets that now feature and advertise built in gopro mounts, 2 that I have come across are the Sweet Grimnir and Giro Range, does anyone have an experience with either of these?
TIA

I have a giro edit helmet. Used the gopro mount once or twice, but its right on the front so I felt the weight pulling down onto my goggles. Also helmet mounts (IMO) aren't that good as your head naturally moves a lot. The stick on mounts are fine if you want a helmet mount. I would select a helmet on other criteria ie comfort/weight/looks/features etc. Incidentally, I'm happy with my giro helmet - comfortable and light.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@woodpecker, I have the Giro Range and used it for about a month last season. I didn't use the Go-Pro mount, so cannot comment on that, but I can on the rest of the helmet.
The USP is the clam shell design, which works as advertised and clamps around your head without pressure points. I didn't have any issues with ventilation or movement. The only minor points were the magnetic buckle, which to my mind was a solution looking for a problem, and the fact for me at least the chin strap was much too long. The chin strap adjustment is limited by the fixed chin pad, so that even on the minimum adjustment it wasn't tight enough. This was solved by shortening the straps, by sewing in loops to remove about 3 cm of length.
The SP Grimnir was on my list, but bizarrely their largest XL helmet is only 61cm, so not an option for me.
As always the best helmet is one that fits.

@woodpecker, my skibuddy has been using a giro with a built in gopro attachment on the front. Assume it is the range. He speaks highly of it. He has a knack of taking some pretty big hits and likes tree skiing. The mount is designed to pop off from what I understand to prevent any damage to the helmet. He use to have to take a bunch of sticky mounts on holiday and now this seems to have stemmed the need to. He has never mentioned anything about the weight at the front pushing down on the goggles.

Thanks for the replies, I know there was never any evidence and the comments were retracted about the MS case. I've used giro helmets for the last few years with the GoPro strap mount through the vents but having read through a lot of opinions I'm starting to think it's not really good idea.
All the helmets with built in mounts stick them right on the front which is just where I like to push my goggles up to so they are not ideal for me.
I need to get good stable footage of students skiing, any ideas for alternate mounting not on the helmet, my son hurt himself with a chest mount so that's not on my list.

I've given up mounting my gopro on helmet, I use a rucksack shoulder mounting (Dakine Velcro's around the strap, very stable), also hassle with lifts (bar smashing onto camera when I forgot about it) - oh and I get fed up looking a plonker! That said I've not done much gopro filming last couple if seasons, its pretty boring footage and I cant be bothered editing it! I'll likely look when i'm 90 or something though so its worth having I guess.
@woodpecker, if you're after photos of others not entirely sure you want a helmet mount, aren't you better with a hand mount so you can direct your camera easier? Helmet mount follows your own line of sight, aren't you better looking where you are going yourself and pointing the camera independently at your students?

@Markymark29, that's a very good point you make, I use the gopro for a mix of photos and short video clips, I learned early on that short well targeted video clips was the way to go, I'm wondering whether to just clamp it on my ski pole. I always ski with a Dakine Helipack so I could also look at mounting on the strap, is there a specific mount for that?

@woodpecker, Also the number of people who have stopped me and said "where did you get that...?" is really amusing, including Germans and locals in Austria. I actually gave mine away end of last season to a friend in Austria and bought myself a new one...
