Looking for a bit of advice re a 4 night trip to morzine. Due to arrival of baby 14 months ago I have been on two ski holidays with mates leaving wife at home. I was all set for another break alone but have discovered edinburgh to Geneva is daily so looking at morzine first week of march.
Have priced it with a company called ski weekender at 500 each half board with just passes to buy. Anyone know if other companies who do this.
Never skied that area and wondering if morzine will give us enough for 3 days or should we spend an extra 20 quid each on a pds pass. Both like covering big mileage and touring about.

That's the spirit  My compliments and congratulations to you and your good lady wife.
Definitely get a PDS pass. The Morzine 'Pleney' area is 1 day's worth but the PDS are (other side of the valley) is much more interesting if you like mile munching and grand tours.

Igoski do edinburgh flights but only offer wednesday departures for 4 night breaks. Looking for Thursday or Sunday departure. Might do similar next year. Wife not ready for leaving the wee one for any longer and will need convincing for 2018 that a 2 and a half year old would be worth taking.

@mikeelsa, first week of March is still vacances scolaires so finding short break accom will be more difficult in France.

If skiing 3 full days I'd definitely go PDS, particularly if you can cover a decent distance. In a 3 day trip (and visibility dependant), I'd do a day in morzine / les gets, one day heading out chatel way and another day over to the Swiss side with a tour of avoriaz thrown in when over that way on the Châtel / Swiss days.
Am sure people that know the area better than me will have better advice but that's what I'd do on a 3 day trip there.

Hi, Morzine is very easy to do your own DIY trip, you can tailor it for exactly how many days you need with daily flights from your preferred airport. Accomodation is easily available online. Just fly & book yourself a hire car. It is one of the nearest resorts to GVA.
I've not been for a few years but have done a few 4 day trips to Portes du Soleil area.

@mikeelsa, East Lothian! Me too! Daily flights from Edinburgh to Geneva with EasyJet all year round. Jet2 Sat & Sun during winter and tour operators too - although they don't seem to sell their seats as 'Flight Only'.
You can get to Morzine, Chatel, Les Gets etc in 90 mins from Geneva airport. With hand baggage only (got an apartment out there) I can do door to door in 6 hours.

Not sure you need to use ski weekender as a middle man for this trip. They are a very helpful business but budget flights are easy to come by to Geneva. Drop the tourist office an e mail and they will give you a list of accommodation. Hire a car and away.

Lots of good advice guys and although I have driven abroad many times I am slightly reluctant to drive to a ski resort. Having only done l2a and alpe dhuez in France I am worried about getting snowed in on the roads. I am of course assuming morzine had similiar road access

@mikeelsa, Morzine is lower. Roads get pretty well cleared. Only big holdups usually on Saturdays. Rent on Swiss side and you will have snow tyres.

Just looked at diy this trip. A quick go had got flights a superb catered chalet and car hire for 765 pounds. That is 400 cheaper than ski weekender with a far better accomodation. Great advice about car hire. Can I assume it does not matter what side you fly into although I think easy jet from edinburgh is Swiss side. As an option anyone know of cheap transfer option

You'd have to be fairly unlucky to have a major problem getting up the hill to Morzine as it's not stupidly steep and the highest point is getting through les gets at around 1100m.. Although, from experience having been one of the unlucky ones a couple of years ago (or lucky due to the amount of snow whichever way you look at it) make sure you have chains as it's better have them and not need them.. etc etc..
Winter tyres are a given.
I wouldn't hesitate driving to Morzine tbh as the chances of getting totally stuck are relatively small and if you're properly equipped you 'shouldn't' have a problem. (Feel the need to caveat this statement somehow)..!

Forgot to say, easybus now running from GVA to PDS, although I can't comment as never used it. That's probably the cheapest option but if you use a transfer company I've always used ski-lifts.com and they have always been great. Am sure others are equally as good too but they have been great (about £60 return pp).

Flying in from the UK you arrive Swiss side, and if you hire from there you'll get winter tyres (and pay for chains too!). It is possible to walk through to the French side, where you will not get winter tyres as standard. Returning a car to the French side is a bit more tricky too.
Some debate earlier in the year about new EU regulations making it illegal for an EU resident to take a non EU car (i.e. Swiss hire car) into an EU country. Common sense seems to have prevailed.

£765 + lift pass and possibly ski/boot hire is a hell of a lot for a 3 day trip to Morzine (or anywhere in Europe for that matter)

if going DIY, in my opinion it's worth getting the accommodation to organise shared transfers for you. About €60 a head, no idea if thats cheaper or more expensive than a car, but there's so many minibuses doing GVA and back your likely to be on the road quicker than if you had hired a car, there's no chance of getting lost, and on the way back you don't have to find a petrol station,
I've done both to morzine.
Do organise it through the accommodation, same price to you, and much more likely to have your room ready early if you're on an earlier flight

skiidygonzales transfers are very good. Used them twice now. Shared minibus left pretty much straight after we picked out baggage up. Lots of text/email updates. They are based in Morzine.

I'd recommend Hotel Igloo in Morzine for a short break. Short distance from Pleney and Super Morzine lifts, centre of town, bars, restaurants etc. They do room and breakfast rather than half or full board and are more flexible on length of stay than some of the other options.

Went last year to Chalet Eire in Morzine and it was very convenient so going in March again. Better suited to the over 30's. Long weekend break, 4 double rooms, chalet board, good bar, own ski hire, adjacent to ski bus stop with regular buses taking you to each ski area. They can do transfers for 60euros. Definitely PDS, the skiing is amazing and views stunning.

I've stayed at La Bergerie and Le Samoyed. Both do short stays and both are excellent. email them, rather just trying to book on Booking.com
La Bergerie would be my first choice for a return visit to Morzine.
The big tour around through Switzerland is well worth doing. You can do a one day upgrade on your Morzine/Les Gets pass.

I did a three day trip from Edinburgh to Geneva last winter and managed a lot of skiing.
Early flight out on Friday (6.30 am ish), pick up a hire car at the Airport and headed to Les Carroz d'Araches. Took my own skis and was in the gondola for noon. Spent all afternoon whizzing around the Grand Massif. I stayes in Cluses, which was cheap (around £140 for two nights) and has really good access to Lez Carroz and Les Gets/Morzine (you need a car though). On the Saturday, up early and did the PdS circuit (clockwise) which took all day. Back to Cluses and spent Sunday morning back at Les Carroz/Samoens/Morillon. Packed up at noon, raced back to Geneva Airport and caught my flight at around 4.00 pm.
I am doing the same in February but probably going to La Clusaz/Megeve instead.

Booked flights EDI to Geneva 5th March 0630, returning 8th March 1925 so hopefully get 2 full days and 2 half days. Thought I had a lovely chalet sorted but it has fell through. Not suprised as probably wait their time for a week long booking. Finding it difficult to get somewhere now. Going to try the ones suggested on here

Tried the three suggestions no joy and not getting much joy elsewhere unless I have a spare 1000 pounds for 3 nights which I don't.
Sorry for being a pest I am normally am Austrian resort goer so not really up to speed on the pds. I take it I can look at morzine, avoriaz, and les gets for accommodation. Is there anywhere else which fits the bill, close to Geneva and decent ski area

@p20pjd, I thought so too - good reviews on tripadvisor plus they also do single rooms for £50 per night according to Booking.com - not cheap but not bad either for a major ski resort in fairly peak season.

Looked at all those suggestions over the last few days. Have now booked chalet hotel regina in les gets which is across the road from lift and right in the centre. £343 room only for the 3 nights.
Never been to les gets but will assume I will get annoyed paying 9 euros for a beer and pricy meals but happy to do it this year. Any advice on somewhere to grab a cheap coffee and pastry early morning for breakfast. Reviewers state the breakfast in hotel not worth the 12.50.
Also anyone used the easy bus transfer. Quoted 34 euros for 2 of us return. This seems mens cheap with most others around 150 mark
