Poster: A snowHead
|
As there are a few threads kicking off on new fads..
Can anyone remember the "Fun Carvers" or "Extreme Carvers" which appeared in 1997 ?
One make comes to mind .. The "Salomon Axe" at about 145cm for adults. But lots of firms made them.
I had a lot of fun on these, but only rented them.
But now I just cant find any reference to them.
Does anyone still have a pair rusting in the loft?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@DrLawn, I never skied on them, but seem to remember them as a bit of a one trick ski. They carved very hard at extreme angles, but that was pretty much it.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi @PowderAdict that's the things .. made very severe turns which would surprise the snow boarder belting past you.
It hurt!

They were made obsolete by the advent of full-on carving skis.....made possible with new materials, which allow greater torsional stiffness and thus a more extreme radius.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have a set of Salomon Axe 8s in the loft. Still look great, don't know why I still have them!

Hi @nelly0168 I'm so pleased you have them ... what ever you do dont assign them to the bone fire of old skis.
Keep them in the loft ..
You can get them out and take to have fun on them again.
Did you buy them new?

I did, they were kind of "state of the art" (in my mind) back then!!
Who knew the skis would get shorter and so so much better, pretty much overnight?

I've still got a pair of Fischer Race carve in the garage from 1998 in almost new condition.
