Appreciate this might be a difficult one to answer, but I've got a couple of people coming in a trip this season who don't have boots.
Cost of rental looks like £100, we're covered for knockabout skis they can use which will do the job (most are beginner or pretty early intermediate) but they could do with getting some boots that will basically get them through a week or two and if they commit to skiing a bit more might go the whole hog, boot fitters etc.
In the past I've successfully used Ski Bartlett, who used to have a fair old stock of nearly new boots on their shelves, but these seem to have gone, and also used a discount place that seemed to specialise in Dalbello stuff in the midlands and go to various clearance events and a new pair of boots could be had for £100.
Suggestions? Secondhand is proving difficult because they don't really know anything about boots, and finding decent enough range of options so they can feel what is a better fit is a challenge, and the places that used to have a range of cheapish boots that would save them a few quid vs renting for a couple of trips is also a problem.
Before the bandwagon gets going, ultimately they might end up sticking with skiing and spending £400 on getting new boots that fit perfectly which are exactly what they need, but right now the choice is between throwing £100 away for some badly fitting rental boots or spending £100 (I hope) using some boots that fit slightly better and they can chuck on ebay when they do get their proper boots sorted.
Location not critical, near South East or Midlands would help but will travel a bit to try a few options.

Ski and board show this weekend worth looking at? Are there shops clearing stock of things like boots there, or is it not likely to be worth a lot of effort to go there for limited options?

Was in Decathlon yesterday - Their one up from the bottom of the range boots look quite respectable (quality of buckles etc) and chirpy cheap cheap. IF they fit of course.
Couple of years ago Sports Direct had a stand at the ski show knocking out Roxa boots at pocket money prices but it was a bit of a jumbke sale.

+1 Decathlon.
My first boots came from there, (Head Edge 70) before I knew what I needed and what flex etc etc.
Saying that they lasted me well for a couple of years and I think they cost me £70 in the sale and I got a boot bag thrown in. Sold them later for around £45 so definitely worth it.
If you hold out till the Jan sale you may get a great deal.

They have a pretty good selection of clearance boots.
