Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpbach for New Year '16/'17

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I'm new to the Forum so apologies if I'm repeating something that's already been posted.

Does anyone have any experience of ski conditions in Alpbach in late December?

I've been to Alpbach before in late February and had a great time, excellent conditions and a beautiful area, but does anyone have any experience in late December? Some friends of mine have said it will be 50/50 as to whether there'll be snow or not, others have said that it should be fine but all their evidence is anecdotal.

The reason I ask is a trip to Alpbach for New Years (28th Dec to 2nd Jan) is under serious consideration between my other half and my best mate's fiancé and while I know we'll have a great time regardless as Alpbach is so lovely, I would like to go somewhere where I can get some skiing in as I doubt I'll have another opportunity in 2017.

Any advice great appreciated!!

Nobody knows. Could be great or it could be awful like last season. At least it's a nice place to be.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You are right, it will be a lovely place to spend our New Years but as it'll probably be my only opportunity to Ski I'd rather have a safer option. We'll have a car hired so there's always the possibility of driving somewhere for a day.

For what it's worth I think your friends are being a tad pessimistic putting the chances of snow at 50/50. Historically the chances are much better than that, and it is very unlikely to be so warm that the (extensive) snowmaking system can't operate. Have a plough through Alpbach Aktiv's posts on Facebook to see how the last few seasons have been.

Cheers for that, Facebook page has made me more optimistic!! To be fair, Solden is not that far away anyway and we'll have a car. It's quite alright there for early season I believe

And apart from the snow, in Alpbach you have the Jakober and the Waschkuchl, and there are few finer bars in the world than those two.
