Poster: A snowHead

Right... I need help.
I'm looking at working a ski season as a chef but I have no idea where to look, what companies are the best to work for and what companies will give me a decent amount of ski time between work.
I haven't worked a season before but I know I need to show persistence when applying.
I just need a heads up of where to start.
Drop me an email if you can help me or know anyone that can.
Cheers Ladies and G's

Hi Isaac,
There are quite some chef jobs to be found in ski resorts, from working in hotels and bar where you will have more like set times etc. to working in catered chalets where you are more responsable of your own work (but you have to be able to handle it).
I depends a bit on the level of cooking where to apply, in case of catered chalets you have high end chalets where they will demand high level of cooking but if you are new to this and dont have a lot of experience it would be better to go for one of the bigger companies with mid range chalets.
Either way, to get and keep a job you need to be able to combine hard work and taking responsibility with lots of fun and skiing.
We are still looking for some staff and have a look on www.smallwonders.eu under the jobs section.
Regards,
Richard

Hi Isaac,
We've got a number of jobs that would suit you on my site www.seasonnaireweb.com. There's also reviews of some of the companies that you could be working for to help make a decision.
If none of those suit then chef's are pretty sought after in my experience so if you decide where you want to work abnd join the relevant Facebook group tand ask if anyone needs a chef you should get CV requests.
Good luck with the hunt!

@iingram94, are you a qualified and experienced chef? If so, I reckon you will find a job no problem. If you just fancy being a chef but have no cookery skills save for beans on toast and spag Bol, think again !

If you don't have qualifications then chalet host is a decent position with plenty of ski time (so long as you pick the right company!), also lots of jobs going. Probably want to market yourself as a cook rather than a chef though. If you're not qualified then it'll be difficult to get a purely cooking job aside from KP sort of things.

You say you have no qualifications ? but do you have lots of relevant experience? If you can demonstrate excellent cooking skills, imagination, capable of producing first class original meals? and are interested in working in Colorado USA. PM me.
If you are a good cook with some experience, all the UK ski tour operators will be interested in you. Try Natives, Seasonaireweb.com, Ski Jobs etc. As one of my colleagues once remarked, Chefs & Nannies are like rocking horse s--t in the winter.

One thing to consider (depending on your skill level) is how flexible you want/are allowed to be... Generally speaking with the 'big league tour operators' e.g. Inghams, Skiworld, Crystal etc, then the drill is 'if it's tuesday it's lasagne, thursday pork chops' in painting by numbers kind of way
the independent chalet company's are much likely to be more flexible once you've shown you've got the skills and can keep to budget. A good place to look additionally would be
http://www.chaletsdirect.com/forum/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=2
additionally if you're 18 then you'll probably find it easier to get a job with a 'biggy' - if your say 25 or so with a track record in turning out, then I'm sure an independent might be more interested.
