Hi,
I'm looking for good advice on buying ski's.
This will be my first pair, so I have no clue what I should buy. I'm 17y old, 1m75 and weight 64kg. I've been skiing for a long time, so I don't need beginner ski's. I would like to have twin-tips who will preform good on the piste as well as in the park. I've recently begun freestyling, so it's not that I'll be kicking jumps from 20m or so.. I like both slopestyle and big air, so something all-round would be perfect. I'm also a ski-instructor and would like to use the same ski's as in the park. Between 200-600€ would be awesome.
Thanks for the answers!

The plural of ski is "skis". Sorry to be pedantic -I'm not the only snowhead who starts twitching at a misplaced apostrophe.
What level instructor are you....?

You need to find somewhere with a variety of skis available for demo, and then try several different pairs. There will be a charge for this of course, but many places will offset that charge against the price if you buy a pair after demoing.
Everybody is different, and skis that are brilliant for one person may be so-so for another, particularly once you are beyond the beginner stage.

I amazed how someone who has apparently been skiing most of their life, has a wide range of abilities and has been through instructor training, hasn't noticed what skis they were on, or what others around them were using

@Perty, I'm from Belgium and there they write skis with an apostrophe, that's why I wrote it like that. But thanks for correcting me though. I'm anwärter 1, but that's an austrian term. It's like teaching the basics, learning to ski.

@PowderAdict, I've always had rental skis. I know the difference between certain types of skis, but it's not easy when you want something all-round. I'm only asking for advice, there is so much to choose...

Just spent 250.00 on powder skis shipped across the pond from GB. Great deals are out there, and I think you narrowed down what you want. Park skis, twin tip, 85-100 at the waist, and some traditional camber for work, and you should have an idea how long by now.
Read a few reviews and match what you want with the descriptions, you'll be ordering skis in no time. I like the black ones.

The costs of transporting skis often outweighs the benefit of having your own skis (compared to renting).
The exception to this rule, is if you spend extended periods skiing (i.e. upwards of 2-3 weeks in an area), drive to resorts in your own vehicle, ski locally (i.e. have no real ski transportation costs).
I have my own skis, but if I want a week skiing abroad, it is usually cheaper and less hassle to hire than take my skis. I would have a wide range of skis if I hire, and I could swap them for different types on different days if I so desired.
In Scotland, I ski on my own skis, wax and edge them myself, and so find it easier to have my own. I found it better to have my own when I was travelling around Europe in a van, as I did not have to hire every time I wanted an afternoon skiing.
Horses for courses really. It depends on how, where, and when you ski.

@elklndr, honestly from your criteria there are hundreds of skis that could be recommended. Do you have any preference for light/maneuvrable vs heavy/stable skis, long vs short turn radius, etc? Spend much time off piste?
As your options are so open I think it would be best to go to a big rental store and try a bunch of the skis that they also sell. Which resort do you normally go to? Maybe someone can recommend a shop.
If you want something cheap, Sport Conrad have a bunch of appropriate skis on sale atm: http://www.sport-conrad.com/en/skiing/skis/park-pipe-skis/
Tbh pretty much anything other than full powder or race skis will work for the teaching you'd be doing as an Anwärter, so just get something that fits what you do the rest of the time.
PS. Don't mind the grumps above - you can at least be pleased they they didn't realise you weren't a native English speaker

Twin tips kick up a lot of snow and bits of ice behind, which your students won't thank you for when they are following you down. Just a thought.

@elklndr, your English is far better than my Flemish (or French for that matter)!
My stepson (who is an instructor aged 21 and who loves to go to the park) had a number of skis last season, including a pair of Line Chronic skis which I think he bought for a decent price second hand. He certainly used them for teaching as well as freestyle.

@clarky999, haha thank you! Most of the time I will be on the piste and in the park. I think that slightly shorter skis will be better for in the park and maybe not too light. I'll definitly take a look at the site and maybe see if I can try some skis out somewhere.
Thank you for your advice!

@elklndr, I think so...he has about three pairs of skis at any time, of various shapes and sizes, but in the last three years he's had a succession of Line skis-Sick days, a pair of Chronics, and now some Blends. I think he got his first ones as an ex demo pair on eBay and they came with some quality bindings (marker Jester Schizo). He may have kept the bindings when he sold the skis on, which is always worth considering.
Here's a link to what he's up to at the moment - instructing in NZ (and hanging out with like minded skiers, when not instructing!). He's the man behind the camera mostly, but I think he's also the one in the brownish yellow and black jacket, and the noisiest! http://snowbrains.com/video-rowdiest-session-in-years-at-treble-cone-nz-on-monday/
