Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

EC takes Austria to court over discrimination against foreign ski instructors

 Poster: A snowHead

Quote:
While recognising that ski instructors need adequate training and qualifications, the Commission said that there was no safety justification for stopping foreign instructors finding local clients, adding that the legislation is out of proportion and unnecessary, especially as other Alpine regions don’t apply similar restrictions.

Sounds fair enough really. Tbh I'm very out of the loop re. ski instructing stuff in Austria now, but I'm kinda surprised Austria is being taken to court before France in this regard...

Nah - as well. The Francophile nonsense we get here when it turns out another ski destination is also applying restrictive practices or consumer unfriendliness doesn't justify the behaviour in France. The only reason that France gets discussed more on here is that I suspect more sHs have more direct personal experience of e.g. poor on slope behaviour by the ESF or price gouging in French resorts.

Isn't this a bit different from France though? France discriminates against people, including French people, without what many think is an unnecessarily high technical qualification. In Austria, it seems, it's purely on nationality which is much more straightforwardly not communautaire. [/i]

@pam w, yep! I'm honestly not quite sure what the problem is - for example you can work for a Tirolean ski school no problem... Something to do with setting up your own school (also worth pointing out it's not Austria, just Tirol and Styria.
