Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pettneu - Hints / Tips / Advice please

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Next year's skifest looks like it'll be St Anton - beginning of March.

The plan, at the moment, is to fly to Zurich, rent a car then drive to Pettneu (2.5-3h I suspect). Innsbruck may be an option - cost / availability (NW England)

There'll be 4 of us and I'm thinking of renting a two bedroomed apartment. Accom here is a lot cheaper than SA

Any Hints / Tips / Advice would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

SM

We stayed here a couple of years back and can thoroughly recommend it. Very friendly staff, great restaurant and rooms. They also have courtesy buses that run to and from the St Anton lift stations from about 08:00 until around 18:00. You could do a lot worse.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Innsbruck far nearer & easier to get to Pettneu. Good links with bus/train. No real need to hire a car except for the convenience. Quiet village but a few good restaurants/bars. Local bus to Stanton free with lift pass, (but they don't check anyway). Also a Postbus, paid for. If you don't have your own equipment, the hire charges here are way lower than Stanton. Their local lift hasn't operated for I think 3-4 years. Some good apartments for rent there.

We used to stay years ago in the cellar of the "Feuerstein's" (Flintstones believe it or not).
All would be well until he tried to put Dino out.

There was also a lot of trouble with falling of the stools in Fredl's Stadle.
It OK if you stick with Beer...
But beware of "Gletcher Wasser" & "Rubber Death".

Train/bus is just as easy, if not easier, than driving if coming from Zurich, especially as you have to contend with traffic if doing the usual Sat-Sat change over (tunnel traffic can easily back up past the Pettneu junction in the morning, so much so that the ski bus no 9 that serves the wellness park runs in the opposite direction to it's usual circuit). Book train tickets in advance when the cheap Sparscheine tickets are available. Small MPreis in the middle of Pettneu which will have more than enough to keep you going for a week, no need to go to the larger one by St Jakob.

Thanks folks.

MAN - INN is an option - flight times are awful though...06.00 out / 10.00 return. Not nice. A direct flight to ZRH with Swiss is same cost, with luggage included. Or a 4h indirect flight with LH to INN... all round the same price but better times.

Found a nice apartment in St Anton - bit more expensive, but probably a bit more convenient..... 10m walk to the lifts...

Is there a direct rail connection from INN airport to St Anton? Any idea of cost? Return flight time might preclude this option...

Thanks again

Trains to St Anton run from Innsbruck central railway station, which is about 15 minutes on the F line bus from the airport. Cost was about 28 euro or so 2 years ago. St Anton train station is literally a 2 minute walk to the main street.

That plan is now cancelled in favour of Saalbach, but that's for everyone's help - maybe next year!
