Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Danger on the slopes: how risky is skiing?

 Poster: A snowHead

Report from the Royal Statistical Society:

https://www.statslife.org.uk/sports/1157-danger-on-the-slopes-how-risky-is-skiing

Conclusion: not as risky as you may think — and if you are a young, male snowboarder, you are most at risk.

Not as risky as getting out of bed, but yes it's dangerous.

Skiing accidents can be plotted on a bathtub chart.

A lot for beginners (lack of skill), fewer for middlers (more experience), a lot for extremists (riskier riding).

You need to factor in the invincibility quotient that many young people have. Hence the young male boarder stat at the top. And, that there is only one cure for stoopid...

Not as risky as people who don't think believe wink
Personally I think it's absurd to think of skiing as a "dangerous sport". It's hardly horse riding"!

It all depends what you consider a sport of course, but if you can't think of 10 things to do which are more dangerous than a day pottering about at Milton Keynes then you're probably not trying very hard.

There's some other good stuff on that site too though - thanks.

Crowded Groomed Carpet Slopes are dangerous because of the concentration of skiers/boarders, therefore groom all that horrible off piste stuff, reduce the density and the slopes will be safer for all. Toofy Grin snowHead

I'm getting worried about riding my bike....
Well actually falling off it is the worst bit.

I haven't got a bike helmet so I did wear my ski helmet on it one day.
I felt I was taking it to a new level when I pulled the goggles down.
