Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tignes free shuttle - how good is it early season?

In my ongoing endeavours to get the PSB back in action, I have been repeatedly frustrated in my attempts to get a decent 'Base location' together up in Val Claret.
Basically, while we can quite easily make use of all sorts of apartments all over the village, if we don't have a decent central base for the group to orbit and gravitate towards, everything ends up rather disparate and the group doesn't really gel.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have just been offered all the beds we could need, all in one building. The apartments are stunning! Newly built, they opened last December so with one season done, they should even have cleared any 'snagging'. I've negotiated hard, and the price I've been offered as "a welcome so your guests can see just how good it is" makes it a very attractive prospect.

The only thing that concerns me is that it's in Tignes Le Lac.
Now, I've always gone for Val Claret because: should the snow not arrive in time, we are right next to the Funiculaire up to the Glacier with the double M home-run that they make sure is open.

OK, we only need the Aeroski to be open to get up to Val Claret and back but if it isn't...
I know it's only 5-10 mins on the bus between le Lac and Val Claret but how reliable and how frequent is the service right at the beginning of December?

@admin, fairly frequent at least at peak times - there's a timetable, but I can't remember waiting more than 10 minutes for one. I stayed in Tignes Le Lac the first week in December 2014 and I can honestly say the bus didn't bother me in the slightest. It was the first week that EK was scheduled to open so I think the bus times had switched from pre-season mode to main season mode.

EDIT: Personally, I thought it was well worth the bus for the advantage of staying in Le Lac rather than VC. The Jam Bar does a very nice calimero...

@admin, I think it is every 15 minutes from the first week of the winter season. Which week are you going ?

Thanks @Gämsbock, that goes some way towards answering my next question too.

@rjs, this particular version of the plan is 3-10 Dec.

Iv dug up a timetable from last season from https://www.tignesnet.com/buses and it appears that the service was every 30 minuets (15 at peak) and runs to late. I haven't used it but id be surprised if they would bother changing it. Timetable: http://www.tignes.net/uploads/media/page/0001/65/bd2e4db657478aada3eaaf6a69585c02d054882f.png

@admin, well done for getting what sounds like an excellent base for a PSB. Sounds like the bus is frequent and reliable enough. I agree with@Gämsbock, that Le Lac is overall a better base than Val C, although I understand your concern about snow cover early season. BTW, have you been since Aeroski replaced by Toviere gondola? Better design and much more reliable Very Happy

I've used the bus in the evenings before on the PSB, to try out a few different bars, and had no problems with it. Doesn't take too long, so I'd be happy with that for skiing too, especially if the accommodation is good Smile

Thanks @skifans1! Actually that time table is for the bus between 1800 and Le Lac but another one on that page showed the Le Lac <-> Val Claret times http://public.tignes.net/TIGNES.NET/NAVETTES/Navette_31oct.pdf
Looks like they run every 30mins although the journey is only 5mins, which is good.
Seems odd though that they finish at 4PM as the lift isn't shut by then and @fixx's after-dark activities would seem to suggest at least some kind of service after this.

@intermediate, yes I've seen (and ridden) the new lift but still think of it as the Aeroski - it's somehow a more memorable name to me.

@admin, You have posted the timetable for the pre-season. The timetable will be different for the week you propose going there.

@rjs, it does look like that doesn't it.
The site that @skifans1 linked to said it was "Autumn / Winter" but I realise now that it was just Tignesnet rather than an official site so it's hardly going to be definitive. Unfortunately, the official sites I've found are far less useful in this regard.

Yes, I know but that was from tignesnet.com which isn't.
Unfortunately all the info I can find on Tignes.net is:

"Just to make getting around the resort quick and easy, Tignes has developed its own free shuttle service : 23 stops from Tignes 1800 to Tignes Val Claret Grande Motte from June 25 th to August 28th 2016."

Which doesn't help a lot rolling eyes

I live in Le Lac - and for the last 4 seasons have skied the first day of the Espace Killy Season - the buses are not a problem, they do run to a timetable (which may not be published for the day time period but basically every 15 mins). I think Piste Henri has been open for 3 of those 4 opening days so irrelevant anyway.

Last year the buses started running after 7pm for the first time which was a welcome addition. Of the other Shs in Tignes Tigski is in Le Lac, and Stuart Woodward is in Lavachet - so no snags.

Admin - which gaff have you been offered - there's a fair chance I have been in it given your description (and only metres few from a beer at Chez Chocks!) - PM if you don't want to declare your hand in public.

Yes, but it was only open 3 of the last 5, hence my concern.

@admin, the buses were definitely running after 4pm that week in 2014, I was usually on them between 5-6pm. I have a vague recollection that they were more frequent at peak times which was when I was using them.

@admin, if you have critical mass then I think you could secure private taxis for a very reasonable sum. I found that when we were somewhat stranded down in less brevieres we could get taxis easily even from val disere at a reasonable cost....Er...if you need them at 2am
