Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Central South Island NZ

Poster: A snowHead
Mt Hutt opened last weekend. There was heaps of snow a week out - 1m + base, then it rained, and most of it disappeared for opening day. Had a good little storm move up the South Island yesterday, which got it sorted out, so I got a bad case of Mondayitis and went up there today.

Pretty good, but groomed trails only - looked tempting off piste, but was very thin cover over rocks and loose shale. Got 10 runs in top to bottom, not a bad effort for day 1 of the season.

Anyway here's a pic, taken from the bar Very Happy . Feeling a bit sore and achy today, so will probably have another day off sick tomorrow and take in some mountain air, in the hope that it improves my health.

The snow has all gone now. There has been repeated warm and wet low pressures, which have either delayed opening or closed most of the ski areas on the South Island.

However, looking like it's going to change, and normal weather patterns will kick next week. Mt Hutt has about 60cm forecast over the weekend and into next week.

Lower fields around Queenstown are looking tragic too.

On a positive note, the winter fishing for trout has been awesome Very Happy The tekapo hydro canals are full of huge (30lb+) fish at the moment, probably helped by the unseasonal warm weather, so plenty to do when the mountains are closed Very Happy

Nice one @hang11, looks like you're going to be one of our key men on the far southern ground!

Any word on when the Ruapehu fields will open?
