Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thanks for that - useful info, especially as the Independent's heading is incorrect....

It reads as though you will be turned away if you check in with under 30 mins to spare. That was odd anyway as I understand the latest easyjet check in is 40 mins before departure.

However, what it's actually saying is that you must have cleared security a minimum of 30 mins before the flight - a totally different kettle of fish. Excessive and unnecessary at small provincial airports where it's only a few mins' walk from arrival door to boarding gate.

@mountainaddict, it's very Gatwick centric though

My reading of the Independent article is that if there is less than 30 minutes before departure at the entrance to security, where your boarding pass is scanned, you will not be permitted to enter the security queue.

At some airports, such as Manchester and in the past, Luton, the security queue is often in excess of 30 minutes then this appears to be very sensible.

I think the 40 minutes for checkin, or as it is often referred to these days, bag drop, is to allow the airline to load your bag onto the flight.

Yep. They have re-programmed the security gates that read your boarding pass, before you enter security. Then if there is less than 30mins before your flight take-off, computer will say NO!

This is for two reasons I would think. First is that it will reduce departure delays due to passengers arriving late at the gate - and this will push Easyjet up the airline punctuality rankings and make on time passengers happy. Secondly, it will save all the time and money involved in escorting passengers back to the terminal from airside when the have missed their flight.

Also, if they can reject you with 30 mins to spare, that could be ample time to tell the baggage system to not load your bags on the plane. Taking bags off a plane is a real pain as the have to unload containers and rummage through them.

Sounds like Easyjet are taking some lessons from the old Ryanair! Very Happy

It's not a bad policy but takes no account of nuance - quite possible due to the ongoing clusterf**k that is Southern trains that through no fault of your own you might be severely delayed getting to Gatwick then you have to get lucky to queue jump the bag drop then you get bounced at security. Meanwhile your flight is delayed 45 mins due to knock on timings. Most people aren't late for flights because they are larging it up in the pub but due to external transport factors

Last October we arrived at the mid term car park at Luton 30 minutes before the flight was due to leave, a shuttle bus waited 5 seconds for us to get on, there was no one in front of us at security (things have improved a lot at Luton) we walked straight through to the gate and then had to wait 10 minutes for the gate to open. Is 10 minutes from car park to gate a record? I cannot believe it! But it is true.

Other than it's Gatwick only. Maybe it's a response to the rail pains.

Ah! the second paragraph seemed to imply that it was Easyjet doing universally. Then, later, it mentions Gatwick and you get the impression it only applies to Gatwick. So it is really a non news story.

Does the airport security system really have airline specific deadlines in it? It's possible, I suppose, but I find it hard to believe.
