Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing Oct 4-8th?

Obviously snow conditions permitting, is there anywhere in the Alps that would usually be open for skiing on these dates? A group of us are heading to the Nurburgring 1-4th, and thinking of heading to the Alps for 4 days too?

Tignes, with Mountainsun. Might be other glaciers further east which will be open and a better fit with Nurburgring. Has to be a glacier though, and space therefore likely to be limited, especially if there are race teams training at the time. And, of course, there are T-bars.... wink

Hintertux would be one option.

Ricklovesthepowder,
Stubai Glacier and/or Hintertux, in Austria, would be my choice at that time of the year. Pitztal is also very good but is a bit smaller than the other 2.

Zermatt is the only resort in the Alps with enough glacier left to guarantee skiing that late in the season.

Hintertux has a bigger Summer ski area, but its glacier is shrinking fast and conditions may not be great.

If you're prebooking, it's Zermatt.
If lastminute, it's Hintertux.

^^Stubai opens mid-Sept (always). Usually only a couple of lifts to start, but by October there should be a reasonable amount. Most of the world's best freestylers will be around then for the Stubai Zoo Sessions, if you fancy watching some park insanity.

If cash is a problem you're unlikely to beat the all-in catered chalet and lift pass package offered by Mountainsun in Tignes - around £200 for 3 nights (4 days skiing possible), to include basic ski hire and minibus transfer to the slopes.

Tignes is too far tbh, especially coming from Germany. Hintertux says opening dates are from 10th October?

Yes, the drive to Tignes is an hour and twenty minutes longer than Hintertux, according to google maps. Obviously the weather will determine just how much is open on any of the glaciers, and the condition its in. But I can't imagine you'd need to book any accommodation until the week before, especially as you'll have your own transport.

Tux is open all year round it does not close unlike the other glacier sresorts elsewhere@Ricklovesthepowder. By that time, Stubai, the Kitzsteinhorn the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner in Sölden, the Pitztal and Mölltal glaciers will also be open and being used by World Cup races for both technical as well as speed race training. The season opening racers take place on the Rettenbachferner on the last full weekend in October

@Samerberg Sue, thank you. Sounds like Austria is our best bet then with an overnight in Munich to break the journey up.
