Poster: A snowHead
|
Group of 40 year-olds without the kids are going for for a long weekend in the Alps next season. We are looking for a 5-star hotel in a resort that is a) not too far from GVA (up to say 2 hours) and b) is a little smaller than the usual Courcheval/3-Vallees, Verbier, Les Arc/La Plagne mega-resorts. Ideally would like a hotel that is ski-in/out, has a nice spa and (most importantly) good bar. Would prefer somewhere that is snow sure...
Any suggestions/recommendations gratefully received.

@1556garyt, Avoriaz? Has a couple of nice hotels.
Just avoid the French school holidays as they'll only likely book Saturday-Saturday.

Hotel Au Coeur du village in La Clusaz looks nice and it is in a ski area that meets your requirements - about an hour from Geneva. If you are looking for a TO it is listed on Peak Retreats website.
Probably the best time to go there would be at the beginning of Feb for the snow sure bit.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I would have thought that the only genuine 5 star hotel that close to GVA would be the Relais Chateau hotel in Chamonix.
Not sure if it meets your other criteria though

If you switched airport you'd find lots of great 5 star hotels in Austria. Why not fly to Zurich and go to Lech or Zurs? Plenty hotels in these villages would meet all your needs.

As Valkyrie said, if you went Zurich and into the Arlberg, the Zurserhof is a fabulous 5* in Zurs, ski-in/ski-out and very luxurious. Lovely pool, spa & tennis courts inside the hotel too. Last couple of Christmasses have been fairly grim but later in the season it's very snow sure

Actually scratch that, sorry you said close to the airport and the Arlberg is four hours transfer. What about Courmayeur, the Royal & Golf? Not ski in/ski out but meets other requirements

Booking suggests 7 5* hotels in Megeve area. Closer look reveals search extended to local area. A few are in Chamonix.
Not sure any big enough to handle 40 pax tho'

@under a new name, I read it as an undisclosed number of people aged 40, not a group of forty who are all twelve months, but it could be ambiguous...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Try the crans ambassador in crans montanna. Ticks all your boxes. Service was exceptional last time I was there.
