Poster: A snowHead

In February I snapped my femur whilst skiing off piste, this is recovering well.
However, from the same accident I have swelling around the knee, it's very unstable and does become sore after walking around. Most of the swelling appears on top inner side. MRI booked for early May, hoping it's not anything related to the ACL.
Any guesses what it could be?
Thank you in advance

@1969jma, fingers crossed it isn't your ACL but being unstable and swollen it does sound rather like at. Has anybody done the lachman (isbthst how it is spelt?) test on it?

Dont think so, surgeon moved leg in different directions, pushing and pulling. As a PE i sounded as though i knew a little which eventually persuaded him to book a MRI scan

Did they comment about it? And how it compares to the other knee? I know my consultant did that test sent me for MRI when it came back comments .... Not that he really needed to MRI to know it wad my ACL. However it appears to be NHS procedures to do one to confirm.

You'll need to Register first of course.

The only comparison with the other knee was how much I could bend it. The injured knee was swollen and therefore unable to bend as much. To be honest I've got no real confidence in him.

@1969jma, hmmmm....my partner trashed her fingerand now has a mystery swelling and inability to move (hardly as significantly but interestingly similar). She is now 8 weeks from injury and it is slowly getting worse. Medics have NO IDEA what it is, despite x-rays and much prodding and poking. We are working up the food chain in terms of consultants.
For a knee, and where you have no confidence in the medic - if you can get to George Bentley's clinic at Stanmore then you are in the best hands in the world.

It's quite common for there to be a soft tissue ( ligament) injury in combination with femoral fracture.
A ligament injury is certainly something to exclude. If present it should be possible to fix it.
You need a knee specialist to examine it as the ligament injuries associated with femoral fractures can be complex.

The scan should be to assess the joint surfaces and meniscii not to diagnose the ACL.

Ah so there was a point, apart from inserting extra queue points to ensure waiting list targets are met. The cynical part of my mind thought that was the reason at the time this was mainly fueled by the comment that after seeing the MRI he would put on the waiting list for the reconstruction. So when he then comment he didn't really need I did wonder why I couldn't have been put on waiting list after I first saw him
