Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help me choose a hire ski please !

Hi,

I havent skied for 5 years, and therefore have missed out on all the new devlopments in skis etc.

I am an ex-racer and used to ski predominantly on Volkl P12 SL's a great ski, which had to be worked quite hard. Last winter I hired a pair of Salomon Crossmax 10's and found them very easy to turn (too easy) a bit dull, and not very responsive.

What would you recommend as an alternative high end ski that requires a bit of input to get the best out of it and will give me a bit more of an interesting ride.

As to the type of skiing I do, well I spend the majority of my time off piste (but any ski can be skied off piste), I just want to be able to do the occasional blast down a piste and have a ski that feels a bit alive I skis as well as the old Vokls did.

Cheers

Try the new Rossi Z9. If you search on here I posted a review of it in a thread a while back.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

FunkyDunc, Try the Scott P3 - a precise piste/park ski that goes well in the deep as well. Very Happy Alternatively I ski on fischer WC SCs which I find fine off piste, but are incredibly grippy and precise on piste - a full on race ski. I haven't skied the GS version though! Alternatively I've heard very good reports about the Rossi B3 (not B2) - supposed to be quite pricise and is pretty wide too. Very Happy

If your an agressive skier you have got to go for the Nordica HotRod range. They are amazing. I tried the Nitrous (i think) in Tignes. They felt as good as any piste ski ive tried and they floated through some really deep stuff too. You can ski them in a short size too and it wont effect the stability either. If you try anything make sure you get on those.

This just emphasises the point people were trying to make in the other topic about needing to try skis. I've skied the Hot Rods and thought they were very unimpressive, vague and lifeless. I think I'd be termed as a moderately aggressive skier. I don't doubt another skier might find them to their taste.

Thanks for the advice. I had been think of staying away from slalom skis because of the more shorter length and I just assumed that would mean they loose some stability too?

Unfortunately I will be limited to the brands the hire shop have its the Twinner at Tignes Le Lac, bu tI think I might try a set of whichever slalom skis they have.

Has anyone skied the crossmax's and thought the same that I did?

I ended up hiring some ROSSIGNOL 9s's

My faith in modern carver skis has been restored after hiring some crappy Salomon Crossmax's last year.

The Rossi's were very easy to turn, but still had a bit of life about them, and when pushed on the acceleration out of the turn was awsome. Never got to really try them off piste though as the there wasnt any!

I think in future I will stick to the the de tuned race skis !
