Poster: A snowHead

A major new artificial ski complex will be built near Lille in France, by the British slope specialists Briton Engineering Developments.
The 300m slope will occupy 10,000 sq metres of land in total and feature a major bump field, three jumps - including what's claimed to be the biggest "Big Air" jump ever seen - a table top, 50m 'Spine & Hip', a half pipe, cornice and rails. The slope will also feature normal green and red run routes for less adventurous skiers and boarders.
The project is in an old mining area, at Nœux-les-Mines, and is part of an economic regeneration scheme.
Briton Engineering - which makes the 'Snowflex' ski surface and ski tows - reports that the contract has been secured in conjunction with their French agents Envirosport SA.
Hopefully we can get to see some visuals of this slope soon.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

There are two existing slopes in the area. Which can be seen from the motorway as we head south. They are constructed on old mining slag heaps Do we have large enough old slag heaps in Wales or Scotland ?

Not new presumably, but an expansion of the existing one, as there's been a slope (Loisinord) at Nœux-les-Mines for years, complete with green matting - video

10,000 sq metres is 1 hectare, which is still only 2.47 acres

This scheme has been going for a number of years. In fact, the Noeux site is part of a larger leisure complex featuring sailing, water skiing(tow rope)cycle tracks, camping etc.
Have a distinct feeling this plan is a redevelopment of the existing slope.Like many,I have seen the 'green thing' many times on my travels so,last summer, decided to call there. It was closed for redevelopment? Most of the green matting had been removed and placed to one side. Not a lot was happening(it is France )but the girls at the MacDonald's opposite said, they had heard,it would be some time before it opened again.Check before you travel
BTW,when it is open, this would be a great venue for a summer meet.Easy to get to,bring yer tent and skis, shopping on the return journey, top week end. And,as I recall, its very cheap, very big and very green

When we passed in december, it was almost dark, and it did appear to be floodlit.
