Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Good supermarkets on the way to Val D'Isere

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,

We will be driving to Val D'Isere on Saturday morning and need to stop at a supermarket on the way.

We wil be taking the Reims - Dijon - Chambery route, avoiding Lyon by coming over the foothills.

Anyone know of any good supermarkets that we can go to for stocking up for the week? Anywhere between Reims and Albertville is good, preferably not too far off the route.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sid

Huge supermarket in Albertville, right by the road. Signposted to the centre commercial not long after you run off the peage. Also a big Decathlon nearby if you're missing any ski gear.

most of the super u's and carrefour's are fairly identikit and will be present in just about every medium sized town that you go past.

I'd be inclined to drive until you wanted to stop for a break or petrol and then just type Carrefour into google maps Smile

Or maybe type "supermarket" . They're not all Carrefour.

Perfectly good supermarkets in Bourg St Maurice which if you're getting a weeks shopping minimises the amount of time you will be driving with a very full car and possibly fresh produce.

There is a Super U just after Albertville, J33A?? just off the N90 - tends to be quieter than the bigger ones in Albertville centre or at Bourg- very quick to get into and get back on the road for the final pull up to Val.

Huge Carrefour right next to the motorway in Chambery.

It has a McSmut burger in the car park as well if you need to amuse hungry kids whilst you shop. But it is a full on hypermarket size.

Only down side is it's huge so can waste alot of time wandering around. Also by the time you see it you're past the junction, so you need to plan ahead to come off. That said if you drive past it and see it, it only takes 2 mins to come off next exit, cross the motorway, and loop round the road on the hill just behind it.

Also a much smaller and much quieter Intermarche Super @ Albertville. Much quicker if you just want to fly around and get what you want, it'll probably still have everything you need.

You can see it's on the wrong side of the motorway, so you have to come off next exit round the roundabout, back on in the wrong direction and straight off again. Same for getting back on, go the wrong way for 1 junction round the roundabout and back on. We're only talking a couple hundred metres the wrong way, it's not biggie.

@kosciosco, you drive past a large Super U in Bourg St Maurice, even your frozen food won't have time to defrost by the time you get up the hill!

@kosciosco,
Maybe consider Lidl, on right hand side, heading downhill into Bourg St Maurice, before getting as far as the town centre / rail station. Small but beautifully formed.
I wouldn't recommend for a full shop but great quality and bargain prices for several 'essentials' including...
Wine...More Wine....Beer...More beer....Chocolate (especially Bellarom brand)...Fruit Juice (Vitafit)....Greek Style Yoghurt (Milbona)...Pre packed meat & fish...salad, fruit & Veg...luxury muesli.....freshly baked bread rolls , cakes, pastries...
No, I don't work for them...just impressed at quality & price of some of their products. Little surprise they (and Aldi) are dramatically increasing their market share! Our German friends know how to do competitively priced food; not just penalty shoot-outs.
That + Super U on other side of BSM town centre would cover all needs I think.

Never use the Bourg Lidl on a Saturday unless you have time to waste queueing at the check outs.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@kosciosco, you'll need a break by the time you get to Reims, try http://www.e-leclerc.com/champfleury just off the Autoroute after the peage in Reims. Excellent range of Champagnes! But seriously a very large hypermarket with lots of choice and fresh products, it won't be too packed out with Brits either.

@Gilly28, there's one in Albertville, right on the N90. I couldn't tell you if it's one that sells kids clothes though.
