Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Want a phone that brings you resort webcams, snow reports, video technique lessons (on snowboarding only, it seems), Ellis Brigham discount vouchers and "a free copy of snow mag Slide"?

Here are more details (plus photo) of the Orange Snow-mobile - which is a Samsung X660 with relatively basic specs - in this review by Stuff magazine. Apparently it's an upgrade of the previous 'Snowphone'.

Is this a relevant product? Would you buy it?

Stuff have sent one of these phones to Tignes for a "live test", and are promising more news next week. In the meantime, if anyone else would like to get hold of one, we could have a second opinion.

There are very few 'hardened' phones ready for the hill. The Nokia 5140i is one http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/nokia-5140i.htm and even has a GPS 'snap-on'. It's not waterproof but it's tolerant of temperature extremes and bounces off concrete from head height.

OK, let's see what they do to this phone in Tignes. How much is the Nokia you mention? The Snow-mobile is quoted by Stuff at £90 (pay as you go).

Would the Nokia be capable of transmitting the kind of material you'd get on the Orange phone?

David Goldsmith, I've no idea, but if you're trying to learn a sport over your mobile phone it's kinda indicative of the person you are and the product in your hand. (w****r?)

Put and avalanche transceiver or a standard-band push to talk facility in the thing and we're talking business.
