Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Well I've never been there myself but I do know someone at work who has been to Norway and said it was quite expensive, I'll try and get more information from him and come back to tell you just how much tomorrow afternoon. Wink

Prices about £5 a pint dont know if that is expensive as I live in Ireland, not far off the norm here!

Great skiing if lacking the miles of piste found in the alps.

Feb 2007 - I posted this in a forum called "Hemsedal, Norway"

Guys,

Just for the record - we went on Thursday and drove from up from Oslo. Skied Friday, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday and headed back.

Snow was wonderful!

Not as dear as I had expected, nor as cold. Hot chocolate £2; bottled beer £4, Grilled chicken breast with guacomole and salsa, £12. Coldest experienced was -6 centigrade, but windchill would have been a major feature up at the mountain top.

Stayed at the Fossheim hotel a couple of km down the valley - very comfortable. Would recommed the Oxen bar and restaurant at the ski hill and Peppe's pizza in Hemsedal itself. Apent Bar was the dearest place we visited, but a good vibe. Also worth a visit is the Skarsnuten hotel up on the mountain itself. On a good day, the view must be absolutely spectacular.

Definitely would consider it again for a long weekend, might ski it out in 3 or 4 days at full tilt.

Cheers,

CW

Been a couple of years back I think it was about €8 at the bar at the end of the slope, back in town more like €6. Part of the problem with norway when i went was that I was going for pints at 5pm and so wrecked by 11pm. This was at the point that the bars were only filling up, so take the advice from someone who didn't; pace yourself.

Oh and the skiing is boring.

So aside from expensive pints, rock hard snow, dull scenery and boring skiing the place is great.

That said the Norwegians were very nice people and were the only other nationality I have met who can be astonishly drunk yet friendly in public.

Where did you go?

Because I found Stranda far from boring. The snow was soft, the scenery to die for, and the skiing as challenging as you wanted it to be.

Scatty Ratty, now you have decided against Norway, you may still like to know that 10+ years ago, a small beer and a glass of wine cost £9. And the skiing wasn't that great by all accounts
