Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Having had a (admittedly hired) ski pole snap on me (aluminium one) just doing some poling on a flat section, and reading some reviews on a very cheap carbon poles on amazon people complaining about them breaking very easily, that is my main concern.

I have had Goode carbon poles which are solid i.e. - not hollow - since about 2001 and they've stood up to ~700 days skiing - which no other pole has done.

I am not sure the hollow ones as shown are as robust.

@under a new name, thanks for that. For some reason I assumed that all carbon poles would be solid.

Unless you are getting flicklocks - never pay more than a tenner for poles

Same here, however someone did snap a Goode pole for me and replace, they are in fact hollow, but with a very thick wall. The current pair since 2001 still going strong but looking scratched now. They are so much lighter and swing so much easier Toofy Grin

@Bones, are they indeed? Interesting. Yeah mine are a scratched mess but now I don't care about leaving them outside restaurants Happy

I'm thinking of applying some spray paint for next season just to brighten them up.

@skimastaaah, do you have them yet? Be interested to know what you think and how they fare.

We have ended up getting a pair of Salomon ones from Snowtrax when we popped over there last weekend for £17.xx

@NickyJ, The Nevica Vail Carbon ski poles arrived yesterday. Sadly one of them did not survive the postage. Thanks to Sportz Shack for immediately refunding the payment, he was let down by the courier who looks like they ran over them!

Poles are lightweight 16mm - but feel flimsy.

@skimastaaah, the fact that one didn't survive postage is worrying in itself....must admit glad we got the Salomon ones now!

@NickyJ, I think the van driver, or some other, did me a favour driving over them. Very flimsy, I won't do that again.

As the saying goes "Light, Strong, Cheap. Pick two". There are bargains to be found, but you generally get what you pay for.
